That is pretty awesome.
I know that when I had my tj Rubicon it was perfect with 33's but came with 31's. I feel like Jeep has a bit of a *wink wink* /whisper "it's cool if you go 37's" kind of a thing going.

Eta: about the only other thing I would like to see is towing a small camper with 37's.
They know. The difference I give them all the credit in the world for compared to any other manufacturer is that they keep providing for it and improving the ability to do it. They're the only company that makes modifying easy and purposefully keep it that way, and even make it simpler in a lot of cases.

I really love that. For years I bemoaned the fact GM couldn't figure out not to put round wheels in square holes. They still do.

You couldn't be more right about that..i dont know where they lost sight of round wheel wells after '72 (of best GM body style years IMO), but it takes typcially a 6" lift to run 35's and 8-12" to run 38"+ tires on a full size truck... these JT's are cruising around with 2" and 37" and 4.5" on 40's...it's all about them wheel wells, or lack thereof for that matter (our 69 K5 w/ 4" and 35's and 79 CJ5 w/ SOA approx. 6" and 31's attached)

Those late 60s Chevy's were beautiful. All the way around.

Some day that may never come when I have both more space and more money, I'd love to get a step side 4x4 from that era.

And yeah, lifting those round wheels out of the square wheel wells is absurd.

If any of you happen to do some towing lemme know how it goes. My wife and I are going with the idea of getting a small camper, eventually, I'm just curious how a manual would do on longer trips towing.
I've been thinking of getting a small utility or dump trailer for hauling stuff, rocks and dirt and mulch, etc. If I pull the trigger I'll let you know.

Towed my boat home today pic taken at the boatyard after I towed it from the spot. Boat weight dry is about 3k but it was loaded. Trailer weight is over 1600lbs.

Need to rev it high and power into first, once moving it is ok to scoot along slow just starts to stall out In dead idle but with a touch of gas it goes slower than you should ever want but you do need an initial bump of speed. I hit a couple hills with stop signs, not to bad to be expected with a small truck MT. No issue going through gears. but I only got up to 40-45 mph in 3rd. Truck stopped it just fine (trailer brakes don’t function)

Reverse trying to back into my driveway is 100% useless on flat ground. Needed low range to have any control.

I think if your moving a large trailer 4K+ with a MT with any regularity that doing a 2low mod to turn off the front axle disconnect will be a major benefit for getting around tight boatyards/campsites ect. But 4low is good enough for me in the meantime.

This is spot on but it's not really any better with the Rubicon 4.1 gears and you can't get a manual with the max tow. The gearing on this thing is all wrong. If I could afford to take a hit I'd trade my manual for and auto I'd do it for sure. As much as I love rowing my own gears this thing is a dud. First gear and reverse are horrible as well, it shutters and jerks if you are on the slightest incline. I also think the crappy manual is going to make this thing impossible to sell in the future when I'm done with it. oh well.

damn. sucks you feel that way. I wonder if they had originally thought diesel + mt only for it not to be able to be a thing or something.

I've got a strong lean towards max tow automatic going on lately
I mean for me you either are going to offroad or tow, i think overland could be a decent daily driver/hardware store truck.
For me id rather have the rubicon that can tow pretty decent still but be capable offroad vs real good towing and okay offroad.

Yeah I really like the offroad cable Rubicon with the fun of a manual for daily driving. It pretty much turns into an auto in 4L. Also there's plenty of offroad campers that a manual will tow no problem. I even found a few big enough for a family of 4. Combine that with a good tonneau cover and rack and I should be good for hauling and towing everything. I just don't see the review as an good one.

I'll get the manual every time. Even if it has it's short comings. If you are content listening to what the majority of people have to say about transmissions...you wouldn't even be considering a manual in the first place. That's not to say that people aren't correct about the gearing in this specific case. At the end of the day automatics are more "convenient" for driving. The thing is, I don't just drive my vehicles, I build a connection with them. I'm just a manual transmission, mechanical watch, metal gun kind of guy.
