Gladiator Forum: Tipping Point?

I don't mind those threads. I know the manufacturers also read through forums to get public opinion. I see it as a way to bring about positive change.

In this country, we have the bill of rights, the Constitution and other laws and documents. So far, as long as certain people don't take over, we still have the right to ignore that which we do not like.
Don't like a public display? Don't look - ignore it.
Don't like a TV show - that's why there's a remote, or for those fortunate, two working legs and feet.
Don't like what someone is saying - walk away, don't listen, put your ear buds back in.
Don't like what's seen on a forum - then don't see it.
The bill of rights doesn't give us the right to not be annoyed. There is no right to not be offended.
Nothing can bother or offend without your permission, without you allowing it.

I don't have the ability on this forum - but on the forum I operate, I can see all visitors, real or BOT or otherwise. I see the server stats, I have full access to everything. I did some testing and created a post with a spattering of key words in specific orders, waited 15 minutes, then did a Google search. That post was in the top 5 already.
Yeah, our cars are ORPHANS thanks to the butcher of MOPAR, L.I. - the jerk who said "you can keep your jobs, nothing changes" who as the ink dried gave the orders to destroy everything except Jeep - anyway, so there's few manufacturers who give a rip about us - oh, but wait - not completely so - reps from EDELBROCK pay good attention to us - and employees of Edelbrock who are members even ask questions and opinions and try to get a take on what we might buy and at what price point.

Jeep purists will be interested in all things Jeep, such is the passion which I admire. As you've intimated, there's a LONG way between a 2 dr Wrangler and this iteration. As we've seen, some Jeep purists see the Jeep brand/forums being diluted with consumers that they feel aren't worthy or welcome. They are entitled to their opinion of course. However, they tend to forget that each forum has its own rules which aren't dictated by the members.

This is a Jeep forum and I've enjoyed learning about them (even though I've owned one before). It's also a TRUCK forum, which leads to some differing mindsets.

Long may the Jeep brand live, I say!

I'm a member of a more generic Jeep forum where there's no leaning to one model or the other - post a pic of a Grand Cherokee, even if it's all stock, and people go nuts - they love it. Cherokee Sport from 1990s - they'll love it.
So what is a Jeep purist? Jeep has made many different models since way back. Is a Wagoneer not a "true Jeep".
How about the Comanche - not good enough for the "purist"?
J series truck - can't be a real Jeep according to the purists?
If Jeep made it, it's a Jeep. Some just have this thing about showing tough, macho, bigger badder Jeep that can climb over boulders, they gotta be tougher and better because their Jeep is?
This JT has to really suck to some because - GASP - it's got the 3.6 and OMG - so does a Grand Cherokee!
If it wasn't for those non-Wrangler Jeeps - the brand would likely be DEAD.
Be happy my wife loves her GC and every 2 or 3 years, keeps trading up - even though to the purists, it's not worthy. She's pumping money into the company. And my son with his FIRST EVER Jeep - a Compass- he's keeping the brand alive (and was pretty impressed by it)

Like i mentioned in another thread on a similar topic, there are a lot of people on here who are new to "Jeeps", and all the ruggedness and lack of refinement that comes with a "Jeep" (By "Jeep", i mean the CJs, YJ, MJ, TJ, JK, JL, JT) Other Jeep models are certainly more refined.

What i think is funny, is that most of the people who have owned previous "Jeeps" really think the JL and JT series are much more refined than previous versions.

I rented a 2019 JL for a few days and have test driven the truck a couple times. IMO both are VERY refined over the last CJ I drove 15+ years ago on a 7-hour Interstate trip. The noise and ride were so uncomfortable that now, at my age (old) there is no way I would want something like that for road trips.

I probably won't alter my Rubicon with bigger tires or a lift mainly because I don't want to compromise the comfort of the stock truck, yet I really look forward to its much better off-road capability over my Ram.

Honestly the worst part about this forum is the lack of mods.
If there was some active members made into mods things would get better. Instead we get 20 post about the same complaint that should be merged yet the grumpy old man with nothing better to do has to go into everyone and bump it to the top. It only takes that one guy to keep those threads alive when they need to die.
We need more admin.

I'm a first time Jeep owner. And my choice was the JT because it meets my needs and checks off a long list of the "pure" jeep things....offroad, top off, so on and so on. I do see a lot of whining on here...but it's no different than other forums for new vehicles. The slingshot forum was probably the biggest whiners I have ever seen...over time...the people that kept them turned out to be some of the best people I have met. The whiners slowly dropped off. Expectation vs Reality is a big difference. People think a price point is supposed to set a expectation. But people have to compare apples to apples.

I do not currently own a Gladiator, yet, I think this forum is a great resource to understand what issues owners are facing. All cars/trucks have issues, I want to make an informed purchase. Thank you to everyone that posts/whines/rants in this section about problems and issues, you are educating me. I do happen to possess the ability to understand what these types of posts are about, just like the ratings on products at Amazon...

I remember when I bought my first CJ7 in '84. I was ridiculed by many Jeep owners, the CJ7 is not a real Jeep, you have power and tilt steering, a hard top, AC, high back bucket seats, carpet, what the heck a 5 speed, you are a poser get a real Jeep... blah.

Same thing happens every 10 years when a new Jeep comes out. Sunken cost fallacy is my assumption. If I had a ton of money wrapped up in an older model it would be hard to justify keeping it when the newer one was so much better. So those types of people will do anything they can to justify their continued expenditure on the older version. I've had a 5 and a 7. the 7 was sooo much better. I also remember when they went to coil springs and the YJ guys picked on the TJ guys. About the only real jeep that didn't get picked at was the LJ.

i hear ya @WhatExit? i'm new to the jeeping world, and yeah there are a few bugs here and there, but I didn't buy an AMG Benz, so i'll deal.

Even with its quirks, I love it. such a capable head turner. Does everything i want.

I had to finagle my way through a mcdonals parking lot that was being remodeled, very tight parking and only 1 way in or out. Boy i'm glad i didn't have a full sized truck, or I would have just parked on the road and walked in.

Size is great, looks are great, capability is great!

Nah, when it first came out the LJ suffered the "It's too long" syndrome that the JT does. Then a lot of people figured out that sometimes that little extra wheelbase was a good thing.

I know one thing for sure and that is this forum helped save me a bunch of money on my purchase. Without this forum I would have paid a lot more than what I did and for that I am thankful. Also, I do love seeing what others are doing with their rigs. My favorite thread is "what have you done to your Gladiator". I absolutely love seeing all of your builds! So keep those build list and pictures coming please.
