This is a "real" setup not a sealed shallow mount subwoofer.
The sound difference is massive vs a low xmax shallow subwoofer. This thing vibrates the windshield wipers a bit it has some serious oomph. Theounting depth I'm working with is 5.5" so this level 2 from DC audio fit but barely. Had to cut the baffle opening out slightly to fit the basket.
I have the 5" uconnect and added a 10" DC level 2 with a Rockford fosgate 750w mini amp.The amplifier is connected to the sound bar speakers behind the pillar on the passenger side. This gives high level input for the amplifier which uses it for turn on and signal. The amplifier has noise filtering and some processing so it sounds fantastic.
I poked a coat hanger through the grommet on the passenger side firewall from inside out. Taped my wire to the hanger then went to the fender well from the bottom and reached up grabbed the hanger with vice grips and pulled my power wire through. Then I ran it down the passenger side under the plastic trim where the carpet tuckd in.
The box doesn't seem popular on here but for the price I had to do it. It looks very nice and is tuned ok. 1.3 cubes at 35hz I believe.
Initial impressions for the nerds:
The amplifier puts out clamped around 950w on music. The subwoofer from DC audio is rated around 500~. I used to build these back in the day (~10 years ago) in the owners garage at his house. As long as it gets clean power and run around 80% volume it can go all day.
It sound awesome plays very low and moves alot of air at the higher 37-43hz frequency range. You feel the air rushing by you from the port. It is SIGNIFICANTLY louder than the factory Alpine subwoofer. I was regretting not getting the Alpine but now I'm glad I passed.
The box is big 1.3 cubic feet for a 10 is alot especially with nearly 900 clamped watts and a high xmax high bl subwoofer. It is going full tilt when you crank it.
I may modify the box in the future to try to bump up to a 12" subwoofer and modify the port for more port area.
There might be room to push the subwoofer up by removing the felt seat bottom cover. Then I could run a 3" voice coil subwoofer to help with power handling.
