Yes! you *MUST* put the rear window in on a warm, sunny day the first time! When I put the soft top on the first time it had gotten dark by the time I attempted to put that window in; I had to wait overnight until the sun was out to warm the window enough to get it to snap in all the way around!

When I put the top on for the 2nd time, the window was *MUCH* easier to snap in -- not sure if that was because I had the sun & warm day, or it had stretched from the first time...
Yeah, I would love to have a nice, sunny, warm day. I only changed tops in February because I'm going to Florida in s couple weeks, lol. I'd love to pull the top back soon, but Virginia is pulling temperatures like a quick-pick lottery drawing (47, 62, 24, 51...). On the days that it's warm enough, I'm working, or it's raining.
After twenty some minutes of fighting with it by trying one side, then the other, I actually did it diagonally. I started the tabs in at top on one side and bottom on the other. And after verbal persuasion, I was able to work the tabs in steadily without feeling like I was going to break them.

Happy ending! Body shop was able to wet-sand the scratches out -- none had gone deeper than the clear coat!
Nothing better than a happy ending. :bandit:

I saw a video of a guy online do it solo without a hoist. Has anyone taken there top off and more importantly put it back on with one person. No way I could have done it myself with my JLU. Watching the video I think I could get it off myself but I am not sure I want to try, no way I would try putting it on.
Thanks
Chris
I think it depends on the person. I personally take mine off by myself, and did so on my Jl and JK as well. Never had an issue.

I removed and reinstalled my roof without incident. That was the first and last time. It was dicey at best during several transitions. I installed a $100 400 LB winch in the rafters moving forward and recommend the same for anyone else.

wow, surprised people have had that much issue removing their hard top solo. I'm a fairly scrawny feller and removed mine alone a couple times last year. after getting the top out of its place on the jeep I'd slide the top along the bed rails to the end of the bed, then place my arm/hand thru the back window and stretch my other arm to the part of the roof that rests on the sports bar (the front most part) and lift it to the ground. I don't think the roof even weighs 50lbs

I agree. I have the bed cove . I put a blanket over it, open the back window and lift it onto the blanke . Then I spin it around from the outside and grab it from underneath by the window hole and the bottom and carry it. I lay it down on the glass. Really easy. Of course, I've done the JK one alone by hand too

I have done it by myself several times now.

If you open the rear window it will help tremendously.

I have the rear tonneau and use the cross braces to support the top. I'm sure you could do the same with a piece of plywood or a couple 2x4s. I begin by covering the bed cover with a padded blanket, then move one side back a little at a time until it is free of the alignment pins. It ends up being about 2 inches toward the back of the truck and then turn it about 30 degrees (driver side about 2 feet further back the the passenger). The front is now pointing at the left front fender and the rear window is towards the rear right. Now I tilt the front up and roll it to me while standing at the right rear fender. I take the front of the top and raise it to the sky, grab the front of the top in the middle and the back where the window slides and cantilever it above my head and walk it into the garage and place it onto the rack. After moving a LJ hard top solo this is a piece of cake.

It takes me about 15 minutes to get the jeep water tight again. another 5 to get it wired up and bolted together.

Maybe a two-person job on a jku but definitely not on the Gladiator I've removed mine no problem compared to my jku hardtop it's like night and day. I mean the thing couldn't weigh more than 20 pounds it feels like aftero you take the front panels out.

I pulled mine the other day solo. I rolled it back onto the tonneau cover & then just lifted. They are not really heavy, but diffidently awkward & bulky. In the future I wont be pulling it myself if I can avoid it. My 13 year old daughter helped me the time previous & it was super easy.

I did it once on my JK... Never again almost broke my back. Definitely a 2 person job. I haven't attempted on my JT yet. Most probably ask for help to remove the top.
