Clunking noise after 3.5" lift

So I bought the "garbage" rough country 3.5 kit that came with the adjustable track bar shocks and springs. I had a reputable shop install it and took it home. I noticed when going at a reasonable speed it soaks up bumps in the road very good and it seems nice and smooth ( better than stock ) but when coming to a stop anything below 10 miles an hour if I go over a large dip in the road there's a loud knocking coming from the rear. The shop said its probably the springs settling in. What do you guys think ? They said to take it back and they will tighten it up after I get my alignment.

My Skyjacker with the 1" rear spacers made that same "clunking" noise for a couple weeks when I'd hit bumps offroad, then all of a sudden it just stopped. I'm guessing it was also the rear springs resettling. It's when the noise doesn't stop or gets worse, that you have a problem.

That's good to hear. I guess I'll give it a little bit and see what happens. Thanks

It could be a bolt/ nuts coming loose too. I found after my lift that I had to retourqe multiple bolts... pretty standard on any aftermarket lift

Dude, literally EVERYTHING is an aftermarket lift... The Mopar 2" lift is built by Synergy... There is no such thing as a factory lift, unless it leaves the factory on the build sheet, with a suspension lift.

Then I’ll say it this way...”the shop did work to you vehicle, you need to re torque the nuts and bolts they loosed and retightened“ standard thing to do.... And the shop should do it

Where did you hear that Synergy “built” the Mopar lift? Having installed several Synergy suspension components on a JT, I’ll go out on a limb here, and call that totally false. Most (if not all) of the components of the Mopar lift are made by OEM part suppliers. Also, you should not have “clicking” noises after a good lift is installed properly. Strange noises indicate friction somewhere. The OP needs to inspect all of the components for loose bolts or unusual wear.

None of the Mopar components are Synergy components. Synergy JL front springs are readily available, but they have not yet released rear JT springs (with the exception of TJ Mitchell’s prototype set). If you read that somewhere, it was likely a mistake.

My apologies, I meant that the Mopar lift is built by Tereflex, not Synergy... My bad.

The shop probably tightened something before it was on the ground, and now the connections are shifting. The springs don’t settle. They may be misaligned. If it were me, I’d check the spring alignment in the perches. Then, while it’s on the ground supporting its own weight, I would loosen all the suspension bolts (control arms, track bars, sway bars, and shocks), shake it by jumping up and down on the bumpers, and re-torque all the bolts to spec.

Well, I ran into a similar noise issue on my niece's 2018 JK. They had a spacer lift installed and shop that did it put in one of the sway bar bolts in "backwards" . Instead of the head of the nut being on the coil spring side the threaded portion ended up there and was sticking out just far enough to interfere with the coil spring (driver side rear ins this case) when it was compressed under load. So, in certain circumstances, the end of the bolt and the coil spring would hit, sometimes the bolt would pop over to the top side of the coil, then the spring would unload and the bolt would pop back below the coil resulting in a loud clunk.

Rubicon Express made the Mopar lifts for the JKs, not sure who's making them for the JTs and JLs.

As far as the clunking noise goes, it's probably just the springs settling or it could be the isolators. Springs normally have a break in period, it has nothing to do with it being a rough country lift kit, they aren't garbage like people will have you think.

I finally got chance to drop it off to the shop. They said several things needed to be tightened including one of the front control arms.

Hopefully this gets it squared away. Definitely loose suspension parts can cause clunking noises
