Thanks @KAT$JT and @AustinL911 for the responses. The variable valve timing change makes sense. it doesn't seem like rev hang because of the consistency and because it happens even without switching gears.

If others aren't experiencing it, have you thought about taking it into jeep for service under warranty @KAT$JT?

thanks again
I've not thought about taking it into the dealership for that. It's more something I notice versus something I'm concerned about. And I only notice it when I'm accelerating slowly.

Just ordered my MT JT last Thursday
New to the forum.
I ordered an Overland with MT, because hard to find MT with the specific set of options I wanted.

Had to wait 4-1/2 months, but finally got it 3 weeks ago. I can say without reservation I am so glad I got what I wanted. The MT Overland is fabulous.

I am considering it now with a 2" lift but would likely move to a 4.10 r/e

Has anyone considered re-gearing the transmission? seems like it favors the higher gears a lot

The ratios are spread for optimal gearing for all conditions of on-road driving, including good fuel economy at freeway speeds. Off road, put it in 4L, voila! Now you have a close-ratio six-speed.

That was another question I had. Not a big fan of the stock tires and rims. What can I put on without increasing the overall height too much?

That is a question I cannot answer, but there are many on here who can.

I have 305s on mine with a 2 1/2" lift. Definitely not the fastest thing out there but the manual helps. I find it rare I get out of 4rth. Good pickup is there if keep it in the lower gear.

I've thought about it. I tried doing some research on the Aisin, but came up wanting. There's nothing out there that I could find. My dream scenario is 35" tires, 5.13 gears, and a more over-driven 6th gear set.

This combo is what I will probably run. The 5.13 gears would be fantastic for my normal day to day driving. I rarely get over 75mph, so the RPMs would stay reasonable.

Where I start to get worried is cross country trips. I usually take 2-3 hunting trips out West each year (+/- 2000 miles each way) and at times run upwards of 90+mph. This wouldn't be possible with 5.13s. It puts me in a bit of a pickle on which route to go come regearing time.

A lower 6th gear would be perfect.

Anybody notice a rattling/shaking noise when shifting from 2nd to 3rd around 3k RPMs? Mine started doing it but only sometimes (seems like once its warmed up or been driving for an hour or so)

I notice a definite, not subtle, rattle that I'd guess comes from the transmission or transmission housing or mount or something, if I do a sloppy shift. Same as on my previous JK. I have no issue with it. Based on the sound I'm pretty sure it's not a loose tolerance on the inside of the transmission, but rather something coming from the outside, maybe on a sloppy shift the housing can bump up against a cable or something.
