Gas door opening in car washes

I recently took my gladiator for a drive thru carwash and the air jets actually blasted the gas door cover off of the hinged plate and one of the retaining ribs cracked (luckily it still attaches securely)...my question is has anyone else experienced this? What do you guys do to prevent the door from popping open during the wash since it doesnt lock?

ive been looking for one...ive only seen the locking gas cap, not the door itself

I was thinking about one earlier today, right after I installed a Bolt hood lock. I may see if a cabinet lock would work.

That would toss me into a fit of rage. This thing can hit the Rubicon Trail but cant make it through a wash with out body damage

The air blower at the end popped my gas door open at the carwash 4 days ago... no damage.

To answer your question, I guess you could try a piece or two of blue painters tape before you go in? Not sure if it would hold but would guess it would be safe for your paint .

I only use the no touch car wash. I have never had an issue with the wash or the air dryer. I've never had anything pop the gas door open.

Just had this today at a Tommy's car Wash, I'll try Mister car Wash soon to see if it's any better. Gotta keep it clean in the winter.

During February I went to an automated (non-touchless) wash 3 times a week. No issues

I had the very same issue on my gladiator. I have not found any on line solution. I went to the dealer and they said it operated normal so no help. I developed a concept that works but it’s not the final design. Went on Amazon and bought some small disk magnets. I used some gorilla duct tape and have 2 stacked magnets on the door and 2 inside the fuel well. It works perfect and does not pop open in the car wash any longer. The door opens perfectly during fueling. dont laugh at the tape job, it’s just a concept that works at this point.

And people wonder why I won't use automated car washes. I guess I prefer the DIY solution plus I've never had such car washes actually do a great job. They always miss something.
