On my JK I ran a 35” tire on an 18” wheel and loved the look. I fell in love with some wheels but they only come in 17’s or 20’s. The 17’s are bit small IMO, to showcase the wheels but then again, I’ve never had anything larger than an 18” wheel on a Jeep. My question is, for mostly on road driving, would a 37” tire with a 17” wheel ride better or would the 20” wheel with the 37” tire ride better? I understand the main difference would be the sidewall would be smaller on the 20” setup.

There’s plenty of sidewall with both wheels if running 37s, and not rock crawling. Just adjust air pressure to where you prefer the feel. It’s not like you’ll have low profile tires with either.

I have 20x10 wheels with 37/13.50-20 Nittos. I just got home from a drive and was running late. I was doing 90 mph on the highway and it rode like a dream...a truck dream that is. I can’t speak for 17” wheels although if you plan rock crawling they would be a better choice.

No rock crawling, just some light off-roading for camping trips.

Good info, thanks!

I have 20's with 37x12.5 Mud Terrains and it drives better then my Hellcat I traded in for it. Tire whine is pretty bad though. The only thing I want to change is going to forged (MUCH lighter and stronger) 20x12 wheels from BC wheels but seeing some trucks with the 12's it just looks like it might be too much of a poke outside. Also I think I would have to get new tires at like 13.5 wide to better fit 12" wide wheel too. I would absolutely recommend 20's though!

There are tons of opinions, but here's a fact. Metal doesn't give, rubber doesn't. More rubber, more give. 37" is 37", no matter the size of the wheel. 17"s = more rubber.

Good buddy of mine went from 20’s to 17’s after riding in mine. He’s not going back.

In the form of comfort more sidewall will give more comfort. Plus the 17” will also allow for lower pressure which again gives a softer ride when off-road, also more traction.

My opinion on 20” is they are more for looks then function.

I appreciate the info. I was unsure if more sidewall would make it feel spongy on road with the 17’s compared to the 20’s. I guess you could always mess with the tire pressure to make the fire firmer or softer.
