I'm using an ancient iPhone 8 and had constant disconnections when using Waze or any music or podcasting app. Switched to the dash port (which I hate using- I can't stand wires hanging all over my vehicles) and the problem went away.

So from my sample of one, not an iPhone 12 issue, not an overall FCA software issue. All signs point to a bad piece of very cheap hardware.

Good to know as a lot of initial reports were newer phones.

Maybe at some point @JeepCares may bother to read this thread....not having working hands free is technically a safety issue and not legal in some states....just because the WORKAROUND is "use the other port " that's not a solution.

Well...glad to see I am not the only one. 8.4 has locked up and rebooted twice in the last week. New iPhone 12 Pro Max connected with their new sh*t cable to front panel. Sometimes I get Sirius XM channels seemingly skipping in music, like a stuttering or getting intermittent signal. Did this the first time, was not in CarPlay, but phone was connected via cable and radio froze, then rebooted. Last night, had CarPlay connected and running, launched Apple Music, played for about 20 minutes, then also froze and rebooted after about 30 seconds.

Did do an update to my phone last night, so I will check to see if it continues.
I have had the front port with even an Amazon cable be 100% stable....no such uck with USB 2 in the console.

has anyone actually been to a dealer about this exact issue? If so can you contact JeepCares? They cannot actually open an internal case without a dealer visit first. I've not had time to drive an hour back and forth to dealer just for them to say they don't have any idea what the issue is...

@JeepCares I took mine to the dealership. They duplicated the problem. Then promptly told me the problem was that I had stuff in the center console! They said when they removed the stuff from the center console, the problem went away.

They drove the vehicle less than 5 miles that day. The problem can wait 10 miles at times at highway speeds.

So my dealers answer was, the center "Storage" console should not be used for storage! Then again, this is also the same dealer that didn't reinstall the prop to hold the hood open when they removed the grill to install the LED headlights. Not exactly stellar performance thus far!

The problem still persists even when the center console is completely empty!

Ok, further info from this morning.

This happens whether the vehicle is moving or not. Sitting still waiting on the Vet today, every 5 to 10 minutes the Apple Car Play disconnected. The phone was still charging.

It was rude enough to even happen in the middle of a phone call with the Dr. It definitely isn't a time out sleep inactivity type of issue! It isn't a vibration issue! It isn't what is inside the console! It isn't internet loss!

Starting the process to get @JeepCares to open a case for me.

Well I guess I have to jump on this train unfortunately. I recently switched from Samsung to Apple for the sole purpose of Apple carplay. I connected my new phone and everything worked as advertised for less than a week. Yesterday it completely froze on me. I’ve tryed everything I can think of. I tried resetting the Uconnect by holding the volume and tune buttons at the same time for 30 seconds and that didn’t work. I tried the green phone button and voice command on the steering wheel method, that didn’t work either. I disconnected the main battery in hope of resetting it but I realized that the secondary battery is still connected. Anyways here is a picture of the screen it froze on.

Any help is appreciated thanks.

I've had CarPlay issues with my iPhone X.
Freezing, disconnects, non-responsive controls, loss of music playback. I've tried different cables to no avail. Of course, the dealer can't recreate the issue.
One thing I've noticed common to all my issues is having the iPhone inside the center console. When it's in the console, the iPhone overheats, and things get weird. I can lift the phone out of the console, let it cool off, and things start to work, all while still connected.
I've made some changes to my setup recently, but haven't been on a multi-hour drive yet to test the reconfiguration.

I guess I should also be clear that it’s only frozen on that screen when I hit the car play button. I can play music but it just through the Bluetooth.

Also I plugged my Samsung back in today and all of the Android Auto functions work fine.
