So I blew out my knee about 3 weeks ago and since that time the JT has been sitting in the exact same spot in my driveway. I don't really have a garage I can put it in. Turns out I am probably going to need surgery on this knee and am expecting at least another 10 weeks of not being able to use my right leg. Due to this I can't operate the pedals.

I have a set of hand controls in my prius, but they don't seem robust enough for the heavier pedal in the JT. Curious if anybody else has used them in their JT. I was driving it the day of the injury and made it home using my left foot, but at 6'3 there really isn't enough room in there for me to put my right leg somewhere and drive like that.

My other option is just to let the JT sit until I can drive it again. I am kind of worried about leaving it just sitting outside for that long. I also don't want to miss out on the time of year that is the entire reason I purchased the JT, already hating it. March in SC is topless whenever it isn't raining and doors off a large amount of the time.

As a side note, with covid happening a year ago I chose a really bad time to take on the ownership of a 3rd car (JT) at the end of 2019, lol.

I’ve learned with a few different vehicles leaving them sit can wreak havoc on them. Better off having a trusted buddy borrow it and drive it a few times a month.

Sorry to hear about your knee problems. Currently having back issues myself and won’t be able to drive for a bit - which traveling is one of the few things I get to enjoy. Hopefully you can get some hand controls to work in it and get to enjoy it.

If you leave it sitting, disconnect the battery, otw it will be flatter than a pancake and probably not recover.

Agree, that best solution is to loan it to a friend to drive once or twice a week.

Thats what I am afraid of, though I am so hesitant since this is the first one I have owned in a long time that nobody else has driven. My van is the dirty whore of vehicles and it has been so nice having something nobody else has touched. I could have my dad leave his JK and borrow this just to keep it moving.

Being able to not drive sucks, what also sucks for me is I still have to drive a ton but man do hand controls suck. Hope things get better for you soon with the back issues.

Do I need to disconnect both? I figured while it is sitting I am going to repaint the dashboard this week and need to disconnect the batter for that anyways. Might also get my front camera from z-automotive installed while I am at it.

If it needs to sit, sink about $100 into a few items:
-Add quality fuel stabilizer to your tank
-Fill gas tank
-Do not disconnect the battery, install a battery tender; even a solar tender is great!
I've used them for years and let my old truck sit for 2-3months at time w/o issue. Even in the winter.
- Lastly, maybe change your oil.

I am in the same boat as you are. I had a motocross accident back in January.
Been in a cast for six weeks only to find out I had to have surgery. Just had surgery two weeks ago. Now have a long road to getting back to how I was. All the while having a cast or walking boot on my right leg, so I had to teach myself to drive with my left foot. Once I get to a highway or freeway I engage ACC.
So hope you heel up soon cause I feel your pain.

During the time I don't drive the truck it sits in the garage with a battery tender on it.

See above is what I do for Winter storage to all my rides. Also clean vehicles and over inflate tires to avoid flat spots.

Good idea. I actually already have on of those at home. just need to check the gas tank. Don't even have a remote idea with how much gas is in there.

Ankle injuries are not fun. I had that about 2 years ago, pretty much all the soft tissue was repaired. I must be going for a bionic leg or something at this point. Both injuries unrelated on the right leg.

I will say I really miss the walking boot and knee scooter right now. So many more options then a giant leg that has to stay straight all the time. my leg is taking the full diagonal distance of the footwell right now.

Hearing that makes me grateful I'm not in your position, I am in a walking boot (even though I'm not weight bearing now) and using a knee scooter.
I absolutely hate this but keep telling myself it can always be worse.

Heal quick and well my friend. ?

I miss my knee scooter, having an excuse to ride a scooter in stores and the office was fun, lol. I might or might not have went to fast on that, lol.

When you are allowed to walk make sure to get one of these.

Honestly, the fill the tank isn't a huge issue. It's more important in metal tanks to help avoid rust.

Sorry to hear about you guys and bad luck.
Gas wise a few months not to bad, batteries need a boost aka battery tender of some brand. Tires cover from sunlight if leaving a long time. I'd have someone you trust drive it around with you in it.? then you have a D.D. ?

I'm a few years past smashing my left ankle. I had a ladder slip I "rode it down" my ankle was under the rail when I landed on top. Leaving another reason my JT is automatic... Second injury to my left foot. Driving a stick with out your left foot sucks.? That one I had to drive it 30 plus miles home from. That really really sucked. Then a month (s) plus of crutches. The prior injury I severed my left big toe and ended up driving my Rock crawler XJ everywhere I went for months that was fun.. locked lifted w 4:56 on new set of 33 MT's I had to buy. I didn't have many tailgating problems? Damn I hate getting old.

i might have to find somebody that isn't my dad. or at least clear it with my mom. He has been eying the JLs for a while now. This might might push him to upgrade, lol.

Man that is brutal, my anakle hurts just thinking about how you got that injury. Besides towing my previous injuries did kind of guide me towards automatic on the JT rather than manual. I thought about all the times even minor injuries would have created issues driving a stick.

My favorite was the one time I rolled my ankle, swelled up to the point of no side to side motion. My solution for that week was to ride the motorcycle around since it was easier to operate the gear selector there than an actual gas pedal.

I will say I went big with this injury. Torn ACL, both meniscus, dislocated knee cap, other soft tissue damage.
