My JT is an Overland - 18" rims as you all know.
I've been switching back and forth - I run "Rubicon take-offs" in the winter, Rubicon 17" wheels with the Falken A/T LT285/70R17 and then switch back to the stock Overland wheels and tires come decent weather again.

It has worked fine for a couple of winters, but.......... it means I keep a set of 4 wheels and tires stowed in the garage, switch back and forth, have a non-matching spare when running the Falkens - and I happen to have a 5th Overland wheel I had wanted to use for the spare tire (but the Overland spare is 17")

So, I am thinking about getting 5 new tires to put on my stock Overland wheels and the 5th tire would go on the extra Overland wheel I have for a spare. I could do a 5 tire rotation, not keep a set of wheels/tires in the garage taking some space and have a full-size matching spare at all times.
I'd sell the Rubicon take-off wheels with the Falken tires, and sell my original steel wheel spare and tire, and the 4 stock Overland Bridgestone Dueller tires.
I don't know what the 4 Rubicon tires/wheels and the stock Overland tires, etc. would bring, but I figure each set has about 7,000 miles on them.

My question is - and I've looked for the threads I THOUGHT I remembered on this - finally, the question -
What size tire would match the Falken LT285/70R17 tires but be for an 18" rim/wheel???
I'd like to go back to the same diameter, which is 32.8" (the stock Overland tires are 32.2")
I like the Falken tires, they did fine this past winter on the ice and snow, sometimes DEEP snow on roads barely plowed, etc. and with a couple of our usual ice events thrown in for good measure.
I don't want to go wider than the Rubicon Falken tires - wider isn't great in snow, and I don't need more rubber on the road making noise or costing mpg. Those are plenty wide.

There's got to be some way to translate the LT285/70R17 to an 18" tire that keeps the same diameter and width....... I'm just not smart enough to do it with too many things swimming in my head to be done anyway.

I just really like the Overland wheels - and have a 5th for a spare but like the A/T tires much better for winter.

285/65r18 is going to be the closest you can get.

And and that’s a pretty common size so you get a fair amount of options, looks like the Patagonia’s would be a good option and they look pretty sweet.

Yeah, using calculators that's an almost exact match. That -.1" diameter change is nothing to even think about. The width is the same of course (285) and the diameter is still a touch over the stock Bridgestone.
But hoping to find something more like the Falken A/T. Really like the tires on our snow and ice, and don't want a mud tire for my mostly highway driving.
Discount Tire here has nothing in that size - at least online they want to sell you exact replacements for your stock tires, which I'm not looking for otherwise I'd keep what I have.

So looks like 285/65R18 is the size. Now to find the tire, an A/T, snow rated, no more radical than the Falken A/T tires. I'll be driving the thing to Colorado Springs in a month, almost all interstate.

I have General Grabber A/TX tires on my stock overland wheels. They're 275/60r18. I don't know how that compares, but I enjoy the way they ride and the way they look on the truck and they're barely bigger than the stock size, just beefier looking. No experience driving in the snow, but they're highly rated for it.

the aspect ratio of 60 puts your General tires at about 1" less tall, smaller diameter, according to one calculator.
.8" wider, but 32.1" is the approx diameter of the originals compared to 31" of your new tires in height.

My plan, after finding tires in the size and type -

Sell:
* Rubicon "take-offs"= 4 stock JTR rims with Falken A/T tires, with TPMS, about 6,000-7,000 miles on them, mostly rural 2 lane blacktop.
* 4 stock Overland Bridgestone Dueller H/T 255/70R18 tires
* 1 Overland stock steel spare with stock spare tire

I will keep the 4 stock Overland 18" wheels and the 5th Overland 18" wheel I bought for a spare.
I would buy 5 equal tires for the 18" wheels, using one as a spare and when the time comes, rotate the spare with the others to extend life and keep the spare worn closer to the ones on the ground.

The chore is finding the tires to put on the 18" wheels that match the 32.2-32.8" diameter of the tires I've been running (Overland tires 32.2, Rubicon tires 32.8 according to the tire maker sites themselves)
I don't want to go over 32.8" tall for two reasons - one is mpg and the 3.73 ratio this has, another is my wife already talks about getting in and out, and my knees don't like to lift and twist getting in and out if it was higher.
I don't want to go wider than the 11.3" width of the Falkens (that's from their site) and don't want anything as narrow as the 10.2" (again, from a tire supplier site) of the stock Overland tires.

So something about 11" wide, no smaller than 32.2" and no taller than 32.8" and I have tested the Falken A/T WildPeak tires in our nasty winter this past winter, driving on unplowed roads with several inches of snow, driving on icy roads where one road was actually marked with a huge DOT sign it was so bad - and I had no real problems with the Falken tires. In fact I was extremely impressed with how they helped keep my truck going straight.

Fellow Overland owner and when I look at Discount Tire I never enter my vehicle. Just search for the size and type I want. FYI the Falken Wildpeak A/T are avaialble in 285/65R18

Yeah, after last night, I've learned to try to skip "add your vehicle" and they narrow the search to what they have as "safe and correct" LOL - if I wanted "safe and correct", well, not much about me is safe and correct.

I do see what people say about the 18" tires - being more expensive. Hard to find, no, not really. Costly, yeah - that. But then when I bought the take-offs and my friend picked them up for me in Omaha (he lived like two blocks from the seller) I went over there to get them from my friend and he asked what I paid. I told him and he about fell over - saying "you know what those tires cost NEW?, and you got the wheels AND tires for that?" (I paid 1100 but seeing the prices on tires on the web sites, he was right in the end)

Check out the Cooper Discoverer AT3 XLT. They have an 18" size that should work for you. I just had a set of LT275/70R18 tires installed on my stock JLU Sport Altitude 18" wheels about 2 weeks ago. They are fantastic.

I guess I should add that I don't want 2" thick sidewalls and heavy-duty truck tires that ride like solid rubber. The Falken tires ride a tiny bit harsher than the Duellers.
All I need to do is maintain the load range appropriate for the truck.

Anyone have any comments on General Grabber A/TX,
especially in LT275/65R18 ?

Your other option is to keep the Rubicon wheels, sell all the Overland wheels and tires and buy a 5th Rubicon alloy for your spare... then you just stick with the Falken ATs.
Which you can continue to buy as takeoffs from other owners when they upgrade!

I already have the 5th Overland wheel, I much prefer the Overland wheel style/look vs. the Rubicon wheels.

I know that was an option - don't think I haven't already thought about this for months. That bridge has been crossed.

I really like the Overland 18" wheels, too.
My thought was to go with these.
E load rated, which isn't my first choice, but "only" 59 pounds and very good in the snow and ice.
Have run load C and E BFG A/T before on a Chevy Suburban (twice), on a TJ and JK and really liked them all.
Price isn't bad either and if you ever need to get one on a road trip to replace your spare after a flat, they are readily available.
33.2 inch diameter is in the ball park...

Good luck with your decision.
As with most things Jeep - too many choices!
