If max tow on sport s then sport s all the way. Other wise I really like my Willys. I think I will wait until the tires wear out and move to 33’s with a front end level.

The brake lock differential can require quite a bit of wheel spin before it kicks in. This can lead to breakage.

A limited slip doesn’t require a lot of wheel spin; thus, less breakage.

Get a tire off the ground or on wet/muddy grass/ground and you can be stuck. Apply throttle to get the blds to kick in, the tire in the air/muddy much will spin really fast compared to the other when blds starts to work. When that fast spinning tire abrubtly gains traction, you can shock the driveline and break things.

Sorry, you are talking extremes here. Race track conditions, extreme torque.
Where on the road is a person going to run into that sort of extreme?
If what you were talking were common, easy, or likely, there'd be a lot of busted axles on a lot of vehicles. I've smoked tires many times on my legacy vehicles then hit dry pavement or suddenly hit traction, never broke anything.
Maybe you are talking extremes, off-roading, a wheel in the air and then it suddenly hits a rock, but still - the likelihood isn't high.
These also don't require "A lot of spin". It's not like you get more than a few RPM for a second before the controls kick in.
It doesn't take much at all for the electronics to kick in - I can't even get a tire to spin on my wife's GC (with no LSD) because the electronics control things very quickly. As soon as a wheel begins to turn faster the controls kick in. There's no spinning fast before it works. Our driveway is a hill, our yards is not level at all, I've had her Jeep through our yard in wet conditions and I am lazy about plowing the driveway.

Limited slip doesn't require any spin at all. It's the torque difference that causes it to work. Not a spin. That's why they'll often squeal going around a corner.

A person has to weigh - going to extreme conditions in the rocks, constantly having wheels waving in the air, or driving mostly on real roads where it's really not all that big a deal.
I've had limited slip on more vehicles than I can remember - from my very first car, to my current 73, and things in between - it's a mixed blessing. It sucks on ice, works well in snow - although modern traction control will do the job today- I could hear the traction controls, what is called "BLD", on my Chevy, my wife's WK2, etc. and it doesn't take any spin to hear that kick in.
I ordered it for mine because I'm used to it but there are days I wish it wasn't there - it sucks on ice.

In this case of the OP - it's mostly on-road, so it's a meh, either way, no big deal. He's not going to be into axle breaking conditions. I'd bet at least 90% of JT owners won't.

The final option here is a red Willys edition, but the only catch is no trailer tow package. And I’m hearing that if you add it after the fact it’s not the same as when it’s done during the build process. I heard you lose towing capacity. Anyone have any knowledge about that??

Factory gets ya a bit of extra there. But I am not sure it translates into legal capacity.

Willys comes with mud tires. They are obnoxious and loud on the road.

I would get a Sport S with max tow and buy some take off rubicon wheels and tires on craigslist. Ideally with AT tires not MT.

p.s. as someone who used to sell cars. I can tell you that they must love you. Payment buyers always lose. Only $10/mo more. (for 84 months and an extra $500 down = about $1200)

Can’t all afford to pay cash! And it’s a 36 month lease so only $360.

Plan on towing heavy loads? If not, that might be a winner! I was drawn towards the Willys package in part to the black wheels and trim. I think they look especially sweet on colors. Test drive all three and see how you feel. Everyone is going to have their own opinion but it’s going to be your Jeep. For example, some say the mud tires are too loud but I don’t notice that. So a lot of this is personal preference over practicality if you aren’t off-roading or driving in snow. Test drive the heck out of them! On slow roads, highways, anywhere you daily drive. Be gone so long it makes the salesman start to sweat! You’ll know what feels best to you.

I agree, a lot of it is personal preference and perception. Spend some time driving them, looking them over and figure out what you like and what you need. Once I saw the Willys, that was it for me. The sting-gray with the agrresive black trim and wheels, I loved the look of it. Mine has the tow package though, was a must have for me. And a 6 speed, also a must have for me. It cut me down to only 4K tow capacity, but that was just enough for me. I second Blue Ridge, you’ll know what’s best for you. Good luck!!

You don't have to pay cash to negotiate on the purchase price, which I think was the point @dcmdon was trying to make.

You should know the financing terms before you speak to financing, and even then those terms are the terms that you walked in with. The last two cars I purchased I did a whole spreadsheet for this. Here is an example from the Honda Pilot Elite we just purchased for my wife:

Jeep Gladiator Pulling the trigger tomorrow...need help though! Untitled 2

The bottom row represents the deal as it happened. We talked the price of this car down from an MSRP of $49.8K to $45.6K, and knew before we even talked ot finance that our monthly payment would be $552/month.

The mud tires are an easy swap. And I sold my KM2s for $700 with 1600 miles. Kept the rims. I liked them too much to part with them.

Was thinking about that too! Decisions decisions! Thanks!
Have you considered ordering one? Many dealers are charging more for in stock units than ordered ones. Pick a color, trim level and options. Exactly like you want.

I ordered one with everything I wanted except the color. Which was Nacho. I missed the ordering close date by a few days. Originally orderd a Sting Gray Sport. But my dealer ended up getting in a Nacho Willys with everything I had ordered except Selec-Trac. I chose color over that one option. And at the time got a better deal. I'm good with it.
