Last month for my birthday my very generous friends got me some Jabra ear buds with active noise cancellation. I'm a traditionalist that is pissed most phones don't have headphone jacks anymore. Anyway, today I had them in the Jeep and on a whim decided to put them in while driving: game changer!
My 14 mile ride on a concrete highway to the office was noisy as hell despite the hardtop and sound panels and now that noise is gone. I can now turn the radio down and still hear it and the traffic/situational awareness noises.
1000% recommend for Jeep noise.
Note, I do not use them as headphones in the Jeep, just for the noise cancellation.

I actually like the road noise, etc it helps distract from tinnitus ringing in my head

Wow, that's not cool.

If you're not familiar with active noise cancellation, it's hard to believe how significant the noise reduction is. I've had ANC headsets for >5 years now, wired and unwired. I beta tested a Logitech wireless headset called the Zone, it worked so well I bought several dozen for people at my office.

The DC headsets in my brother in law's airplane were an expensive upgrade, but they drastically reduce the fatigue of going somewhere in a small plane. There are a lot of similarities between small planes and Jeeps!

I have a pair of ANC earbuds I usually wear in my server rooms, I've always used earplugs in my Jeeps, but I'll try them in the Jeeps now, too.

Thanks for the suggestion, OP!

A fellow vet I presume? The damn ringing hasn’t stopped in 15 years.
Nope not sure how the hell I have it. Was never someone who really went to a lot of rock concerts or work headphones, earphones with loud music. Somehow I have friggin 40% hearing loss on certain frequencies and this ringing. Some days its not bad and some days it will drive you insane.

I may be in the minority but I think driving with active noise cancelation is dangerous. It is important to be able to hear sirens and horns. Good noise cancelation works too good.

I hear you - almost.........
I dealt with that for years until I got hearing aids and that greatly reduced that sound that actually caused me to not sleep, or want to scream sometimes.
Related to the original post here - my current hearing aids are programmable - by me, using either the buttons to choose a pre-programmed mode, or using my phone and an app.
One of the programs I came up with is to kill wind noise when driving and enhance voice when my wife is with me.
I can really dim the highway and wind sounds if it gets bad but the main program does a lot of that now, it's been tweaked "auto sense".
Not only that, but the bluetooth feature of the hearing aids means I use the JT only to see who is calling, I use the hearing aids for listening and talking on the phone. First time I tried using the truck system the other party said "maybe you should call me back, it sounds like it's raining there" LOL
I can be driving in a storm and use my hearing aids for phone conversation and they don't hear the background noise. No talking loud, no not able to hear them because of wind or highway sounds.
And it's helped the tinnitus a lot, too.
These have noise cancellation features I can bring in, modify, etc.
BUT it drives my wife nuts now because when I'm on my phone my wife has no idea who it is or what they are saying - only I can hear it! Makes her crazy not knowing.

As far as horns or sirens - naw, those come through as those aren't detected as "noise" by my hearing aids. Too much variation in those sounds. I suspect even my noise cancelling head phones would let some of that sound in - although in a jet you can't hear the engines at all - but again, that's a totally different sort of sound.
I can actually hear sirens BETTER with these hearing aids cutting the background din. That's what they filter - DIN, white noise, constant sounds.

Yep use my hearing aids paired with an app that has tons of different sounds and noises to distract. I use a lot of water sounds, etc.

Bill Shatner once said it nearly drove him to suicide.

You don't have to have been to loud concerts or wars. Certain conditions like Meniere's just for example can cause it. Hearing loss is a huge cause of tinnitus.
I have "moderate" (which IMO means bad) loss in my left ear and not quite as bad in the right. I also have Meniere's so have to be super careful when on a ladder or up on the roof for anything.
I agree that some days (or nights) it's insane, other times it's not bad.

I have been around loud noises a lot - and was stupid not to use hearing protection, but in my case, that's not the likely cause. A bad ear infection when I was a kid may have had a play in it, and Meniere's which is hereditary has a roll.

I will never forget the loudest concert I ever went to - Queen was in Ames. My then brother in law was in college at ISU then and was involved in the team that helped set up the coliseum for events. Queen required more power than any had ever requested. A semi with a big transformer was brought in.
Anyway, part way through my wife went to the rest room and noted that ALL restrooms had huge lines already - men, women, all full with lines. Why? Why so early? People were getting up and going to the restrooms to grab TP to wad up and stuff in their ears! Loved the concert but man my head was buzzing clean into the next afternoon and not from the beer.
Race cars, chain saws, loud tractors, you name it, I should have taken better care in any case.
