I will always favor the looks of single cab trucks over their 4 door brethren. However, that's where things end for me. I much prefer the utilitarian nature of 4 doors. Even my full size "club cab" (extended cab) truck is a hassle with only 2 doors.

I don't think these would sell well at all.

This JT is my first 4 door truck. All my other trucks have been 2 door. From Chevy LUV, to my last Power Wagon. The PW was the only one with room behind the seats.

I think a lot of my love for the regular cab is a combination of styling, nostalgia, and usefulness. From my perspective, usefulness and practical are not the same thing. The regular cab is very useful, but it's not going to be very practical for most people.

My 2015 Ram 1500 Quad Cab is my daily driver and work truck. I wish I had a regular cab with an 8'-foot bed, but I also like having the backseat area to haul tools, equipment, and a lunchbox.

Short of getting this locked due to nascent political discussions, generally speaking the manufacturer's response to CAFE (or any other govt interference in the markets) regs and fines has always restricted consumer choice.
Whenever the government steps in, choice will become limited. They are always trying to encourage a particular line of thinging/doing by restricting others. It is a rare case indeed when restrictions are lifted or laws are rescinded.

But on the subject of single-cab pickups, I think they look awesome and would be a lot more fun off road but I have no use for one. I carry stuff in the back seat when not using it for passengers.

There's now technically 3 variants of this exact same dimension build. It's just a JLU with a slightly extended JT bed in front of the fenders, and back section of the JT cab welded to the B-pillar from the JLU. It's by far the easiest from a mechanical since as far as the functional goodies. I prefer the method (idea) of just using a JT, cutting the fram at the two outer box sections you can see underneath, then mating the back cab to the B pillar and not changing the bed length. The ONLY issue with this design would be the gas tank. Everything else would remain unmodified besides shortening of fuel and EVAP lines. I Honestly think this was a design choice to leave the availability of making a 2 door JT variant in production. I also like the proportions better with the fender line matching the door angle just like a 2 door JL and no made straight like the above examples.

I would be driving a 2-door right now if they made one.
