I’m considering a tire size bump and curious if anyone has experience with the BF Goodrich KO2 tire in the 39x13.5r17 size. I’m currently running their 37 and wish it measured a true 37 and want to get something a little bigger. I’m running 5.13 gears and wondered if I’d need to upgrade any driveline components for the larger tires. Also, on BFG’s website it says the 37 and the 39 are the exact same weight. Could this be a typo? If anyone has this size tire I’d love to hear about your set up, opinion, and pictures.

A friend of mine had been running that size BFG KM3 on his JL. They were a bit smaller than stated, but pretty light and smooth riding for the size. I didn’t know there was a 39” K02. That’s pretty cool. I really want a set of the KM3s for my JT.

The KO2 version is new, probably came after the KM3. How much lift does he have? Is he regeared?

He was running 2.5” lift, with Rubicon fender chop, but rubbed quite a bit. He had 4.10 at first then regeared.
I suppose that is where I would be most concerned, the rubbing. I have a larger offset wheel but I'm not willing to remove the fender liners. I also am running a 2.5" lift.

Wondering the same. Just picked up my JTR this past week and it has 37" km3, which only measure 35.5" sadly. Just saw the 39", and wonder how they do?
I have 2" Mopar, 3/4" spacer in front, and waiting on my AAL fender lights and inners.

I have the same lift and a 1/2" spacer in the rear. I gather that there will be some rubbing. My Jeep mechanic said we would likely need to do some bump stop tuning.

I wonder what they actually measure? Website says 38.5, but also says the 37s are 36.5, which clearly aren’t. My tires have about 2500 miles. The Toyo 37s on our JLUR have about 10k miles and still measure 36.5”.

I wonder if they get this 36.5" measurement with the tires unmounted and holding no air. When it is measured like that it certainly could be 36.5". But once on the vehicle and under the weight of the vehicle it decreases. This is the case with any other tires I've seen. Sitting in my parking lot I have another truck on 33s and another on 34s. Neither measure to what the manufacturer says when they're actually installed.

Good question. I have no clue how they do that. Toyo is the only tires I’ve owned, and it’s been several sets, MT and RT, that measure true to what manufacture specs say.
My ko3, are 37x12.50 on a 8.5” wheel, which in return, should make them stand slightly taller by ballooning the sidewall. I bet if they were on a 9.5 or 10” wide wheel, they’d only measure 35”.
Also, I’m only running 32 psi in them.

I am running the BFG 39 on mine with 5.13 gears and it runs great. I went with the 39 inch BFG because of the weight savings you get from a Nitto 40. I am saving around 80lbs total with going with the 39 vs the 40. The truck runs great with a 4.5 inch evo lift….

Good to know. I am thinking about running them on a 2.5" lift so I wonder if that would be problematic.

Were you able to fit your 39" BFG Spare in the original spare location?

You could always swap inner liners out to aluminum. They give you a lot more clearance and you don’t have to chop your flares. They still look factory. That’s what I’m doing in the next couple weeks.
