LOL, yeah, the winner of a race is only the winner because he's quicker and faster.

I cant tell if this is real or a troll....
I did exaggerate my position and enthusiasm by a bit, but it's also fully honest. Unless Tesla totally misses the spec (they never have), then the CT will smoke anything but well built Gladiators off road, while approximating a 3/4 ton on road, and blowing away every sports car in acceleration. While costing almost nothing to run. We've saved more than the Tesla is costing us just in fuel, never mind all the other maintenance we don't have to do any more.

You have that same thought process when you're low on gas, don't you?

"I have enough to get to the gas station. Oh look, a bad crash. Road closed. Now I have to drive out of my way and hope I get to a station before I run out."

Granted, fuel stations are plentiful.

Tesla & others really should partner with gas stations to install chargers. If a Tesla owner has to wait an hour at the Chevron station, do they not think the owner will grab a Slim Jim and a Monster or more?
Or, carry extra fuel during winter? Or how about just walk to the station and fill a jerry can? You cant do that with an EV. I guess you can put a generator in the bed and haul it around with you.

Also, I wouldnt want to be waiting for charging more than 10min. I SERIOUSLY considered looking at a tesla instead of my JT. I have a friend who beta tests for Tesla. But in the end: a Tesla cant get me to my inlaws in Eastern KY and back to a charging station before the battery runs out. And that is traveling within the same state. The cybertruck can with a 500mi range, but there are no stations within 100mi of my in-laws and there is just no way to get to them.

Plus, even if you find superchargers along the way, a full charge taking about 45min for a model 3 (last I checked, if 30min from 10-80% on a 120kW supercharger, but that was an estimate for a non-longerange version) is not worth it. If my trip is 1000mi, I dont want to spend nearly 3h charging my vehicle, assuming my route allows for superchargers.

Tesla pretty much has always greatly exaggerated its release specs and then slowly gets there after. Physics is physics, and tesla isnt running some super advanced batteries or motors that defy it. At the weight and size of the CT the specs they listed just arent possible with current technology. If you dont believe me just check how bad the model X does when you use it as light truck. Even at half its max tow capacity its range is cut by 60%

I'm personally excited for what I call gen 2 EV's. Solid state batteries that charge as fast as a tank of gas and have significantly better energy density and efficiency. There is a big race to get there but whoever can do it first will ultimately win the race.

The CT has the second gen batteries (4680) and the V3 superchargers are slowly rolling out. Tesla consistently delivered what they promised in the recent past, just well behind schedule. So I'm not holding my breath for a CT this year, but it seems statistically likely that the specs will end up matching what the prototype shows. The M3 LR we have matches exactly what was promised.

False, you should read up on the new motors that have re-harnessed eddy currents to actually make more power instead of kill it like older motors. That's just one small hidden example of how they actually are different.

I’ve got the same mind as you. I’m cautiously optimistic for how the next gen batteries will shape the vehicle landscape.

The 500 mile range for the Cyber truck is the most expensive option. The base will only net a range of ~250, the next trim level brings it to ~300. However this is all vapor ware until Tesla has actually released the truck…

The top point is what i find funny about the tesla fan boys. Saying its super late is literally the equivalent of over promising and under-delivering. They consistently over-promise specs, technologies, delivery dates, and visions of the future. Some of it eventually happens like the m3 LR that finally matches announced specs. So much of it though never does or at least not in any timely fashion such as the Semi-Truck that needs battery tech to catch up, the robo taxis, full self-driving thats in a really rough beta finally (lets see how long that takes), the CT, the roadster, actual build quality (not a huge deal on the volume models as i think its pretty par for the course but the S and X panel gaps and interiors really are a tough pill to swallow at 100k+).

And the tesla motors are a few percentage points better than standard dc motors (2% more specifically). Their software and the supercharger network is what sets them apart right now as battery and electric motor technology is pretty much level right now waiting for the big break through.

I'm all for EV's and definitely see them as a bright future, but I'm glad the legacy automakers are finally signing on as competition will really push the stagnated innovation.

I know it will be late. I am also pretty sure it will meet specs. I care about the last part, but can wait for it. Musk is a blowhard nut and I simply don't believe a word he says. We've been "two weeks" from self driving for...how long? Whatever, the M3 LR already blows away the BMW it replaced and the Gladiator by a long shot. Well, except for those rock climbs.

I definitely want to see a few out there in the wild. It's got my interest but honestly I'm not looking for something quite that gaudy.

I take it you forgot about the Colonial Pipeline hack/ransom a couple months ago? Lots of areas were nearly out of fuel altogether. I admit I got nervous when I was down to 1/2 a tank and topped off when I probably shouldn't have.

I got the trifecta of shitty smells today. It's garbage day and I was stuck behind the truck in my neighborhood. Then, as I'm waiting to pull out of my neighborhood a Nissan Titan burning a quart of oil per hour comes by in front of me. I thought I was going to choke. Last one I was at a stop light waiting to turn and there was a sewer vacuum truck doing it's thing in the parking lot next to me.

I don't think the smell of brakes/burning metal is going to be a winner but I'll take it over exhaust any day.
