It's not petroleum as normally thought of. Works great on may plastics and vinyl. There are no "mineral spirits" or solvents in it. It's even touted as skin care and makeup remover.

Some auto detailers use it.

And in recent decades, it has even come packaged in a plastic jar with a plastic lid so it obviously won't eat it or soften it.
Vaseline on plastic/vinyl only. Lexol on leather. Sorry, I thought that was a given.

303 is good stuff, but I have to say vaseline works pretty well, too.....and it is cheap! That said, this is why I don't really like the black fenders. They look great when they are actually black but they can get pretty chalky pretty fast and then it is just another maintenance chore.
Over here in Love Bug country, Vaseline is my go to for all contact surfaces. Does the job and comes off easily when their season is finished. ?

Been using it for things like automatic transmission work (holding check balls in place) cleaning and shining things and it's safe on leather - I'd not necessarily use it on bindings, cinches, harnesses, etc. but I know guys who used it on - and had no problem on shoes, boots (good for work boots in the winter), leather chairs, steering wheels, dashes, door panels and more

If you can afford a Rubi or even a non Rubi with major mods, than you can afford body colored fenders.
Sure I could. But I like the black ones better as much as you like the colored ones better. That's why after all these years they still offer both.

There are plenty of options given regarding how to make them look "new"again. But. Its a Jeep. And they are plastic. It is expected. Live with it or treat it the way others have said. Its really not a big deal.

I have painted fenders on this Jeep, but prior ones and a Triumph motorcycle, I used Lemon Pledge on the black plastic. Only the lemon works for some reason, but it works very well. It came from a motorcycle group.

I use Trim Serum on stuff that sits outside. Works great.

I went with a white Gladiator with color matched roof to reduce the cab temperatures but black fenders because I didn't want to have to keep touching up paint on the fenders after getting some "redneck pinstriping" (a lot of the jeep trails I run are very narrow). And it has worked out great for me; don't have to worry about scratching any fender paint and just ceramic coat the whole truck (fenders and all) with Meguire's ceramic carwash when I get back from a run so the fenders stay black.

Have you tried taking a heat gun to your fenders?

If you want to do this to your "ump-teen" year old plastic fenders to give them a fresh look, knock yourself out. But I wouldn't recommend this method. It may have a short term benefit, but you're adding a heat history to that plastic that it was not designed to withstand, and it will likely end up hurting more than helping in the long run. Just my 2 cents, but I work with many types of virgin and recycled plastics, and every time you heat plastic up, you are further degrading and breaking down the various chemicals that are baked into it to make it last. Good luck!

Vasoline for leather and plastic. Like Pledge furniture polish for a quick shine on paint. 35 years using them on my motorcycles, not dissatisfied yet.

Many years ago I saw a guy that was showing his Ferrari at a mall show wiping it down with a flannel cloth and something in a spray can that had duct tape wrapped around it. I was maybe 19-20 then (so it was loong ago) and I asked him what was in the can? He said he couldn’t tell me because it was a show car secret.

I kept talking to him, no one else was around and he finally told me it was Behold furniture polish. That only Behold had true bees wax in it and though it wouldn’t last long at all, nothing else shines like it in the short term. He was right too. Behold has been off the market for years and I don’t THINK any other product still has aerosol bees wax in it.

The "con" side of it is so small, so narrow as far as conditions. How many worry about the tensile strength and how often does one wonder about any "rot" if you keep things clean and dry?

I went through several years of spontaneous bloody noses as a teen...... I'd be walking along and suddenly a nose bleed. Doctor said to every night wipe some Vaseline in my nose to keep it moist.
The ENTs now say not to (why I don't know) - but I've never seen a negative from those years of doing that.

I used 303 on our JK’s. This was my wife’s 2015 with 106k miles before we traded last October.

+1 for ceramic. It gives it the new finish without being glossy or wet, doesn’t attract dust, provides UV protection, beads like a mofo and lasts for years if garage kept and just over a year otherwise. A single $50 bottle of CQuartz UK 3.0 would last 2 lifetimes if limited to just plastic protection and restoration. Lastly, it isn’t messy at all.
