Why not just order a truck the way you want it?
Yes, good idea but I’d have to wait at least 3 months to get it. My previous car died and so I’m without a car right now. My rental is costing me an arm and a leg right now.. I can’t lease a car either temporarily because I drive too many miles. Thanks for your ideas!

I'm sure it could be done. But is it worth the cost and risk?? I'd just order what you want. Selec-trac is the only option I don't have that I really wanted. But I ended up getting a Nacho Willys without Selec-trac over the Sting Gray Sport S that I ordered with it. Every time it rains I feel a little regret.

Actually my wife has an HA with select-trac and I have a Gladiator without it. I have looked it over and I believe the transfer cases will swap, with no change in parts. They both even have the same position sensor plug. Her dash cluster does has the same Gear indicator as mine with 4 high and 2H and 4 low, but when it is in partime it 4H it indicates it center message center. My guess is when the shifter is in the right position this shows up. It may need programmed, but I have programmed my Gladiator extensively and the only option for changing transfer gear input is a menu that says AWD. I don't think that it is meant for this transfer case.
What about the different front joints?

If you leave the selec-trac in auto during the snow, it'll give you the same gas mileage as any other jeep in 4wd, because when it's snowing, it will be in 4 wheel drive. I do wish I had selec-trac when it rains, though. I don't think there's an mpg advantage to the selec trac; In any situation where someone would have their jeep in 4wd, the selec-trac will do the same thing, and experience the same parasitic loss.

Except the diesel, none of these get great mpg anyway, so I'd get saving gas out of your head. For a truck, it's not awful, but nothing you do will make it very good, especially on mountain roads (except going downhill ?)

Even the select-trac is reactionary (2wd until it starts losing traction) so I'd be skeptical that it'd help with black ice. By the time it kicks in, you're already sliding.

I like the selec-trac, because it's the closest thing we can get to Subaru like full-time AWD where all wheels are powered all the time. But it's really not the same thing. It's 2wd until it senses it needs 4wd. Both systems have their advantages though (I'm talking Subaru style vs Select-Trac, because selec-trac is always better than not having Selec-Trac imo). I'd have gotten selec-trac if they offered it with the 6 speeds. It's a cool system, but don't expect great mpg and black ice excellence. Everything sucks on black ice.

The clutch minimum in Fords was 5% torque, you will feel the u-joints if you leave them in place.

The AWD mode with the Ford BW4405 could be bypassed with a switch to cut the current to the clutch. If you wanted to do a burnout or a bootlegger turn, this was the only way forward - ask me how I know.

I ran that Ford for 20K on pavement with no AWD, it made 0% observable difference in the crummy MPG.

Again, the AWD doesn't help on ice/snow, the ETC does. In rain, AWD is magic! But, as I annoyed my ex-wife in demonstrating, you can "beat" the electronic clutch systems and have them get all squirrely in rainy conditions, on pavement, in the dark.

Great feedback and very informative. Thank you so much!

Top two are the wrangler front shaft and the bottom picture is the Gladiator front shaft. I have measures the mounting points and driveahaft connections are in the exact same place. The only thing I am not sure about is the solenoid hook up on the auto case, basically what powers it.

Yes the front axle has CV joints as opposed to my old fashioned U joints. Not sure that would make a huge difference as long as it is not engaged indefinitely.

I'm not finding this thread. I'm slightly interested in this and wondering if anyone has done it?
