Do diesels have the equivalent of an MAF?
Yes there is a MAF sensor near the air filter. That's the reason I ordered my intake with the dry filter instead of an oiled filter.

I did get the oiled but I've had no issues thus far.

College bud, and if he leases it, then it's a different story.

Always looking for new friends, also need to visit different states anyway.

@CCOlotti , hows the pipes?

@MF Comics interesting difference in the hot side. Didn’t realize the OEM was “squished” like that. It’s not even round. ?.
I’ll say getting to the clamp screw on the hot side intercooler connection will be interesting. It’s not facing in any good direction.

Yes the new one is the ROUND one. It went in with a little work just due to the lower flex bend. Honestly getting the OLD one out was a mess. Whoever built the motor put the hose clamp on in such a way it was almost IMPOSSIBLE an angle to get a socket on it. I eventually did with multiple extensions and an angle adapter, but it was a lot and once it was loose I spun it to get to it from underneath. Which is how I oriented the new clamp for easy access.

Seems to run just fine, no additional noises I can tell but with the airbox that makes most of it. Engine temps stay around 208 but I have no temp sensors on the cold/hot side I just put the plugs in. Both tubes fit well, look good and I have to hope/think the added flow especially on the hot side have to help somewhere.

Excellent, run it around for the next week and be sure to get back to us. Curious on results.

What’s the advantage to the charge pipes?

Better flow. And they look nice.. good place to start upgrades if planing on tuning.

Are you really getting better flow? I know that swapping out the muffler does nothing because the SCR/EGR and stuff is the restrictive point in the system. So putting a larger CAI doesn’t even do anything. Do the pipes actually provide better flow because they aren’t part of that system that is restricted already?

Well I wouldn't say that a cat-back exhaust does nothing. Just because it doesn't get louder doesn't mean the air isn't flowing out easier.

And the CAI has already been shown to make a nearly 40 lb/ft improvement with dyno testing. That's pretty significant.

The charge pipes have baffles inside to reduce sound, and that's where the restriction comes from. Aftermarket pipes remove that restriction, so they likely contribute to at least some gain in airflow.
