Hi folks,

I picked up some Rubi takeoff shocks, and springs that only had 200 miles on them. I saw the entire suspension they took off and everything looked new, unscratched, and clean so it fit the story. We installed the shocks on our Sport S Max Tow, but opted to keep the factory springs because I read the Rubi springs are stiffer. After installation, my wife and I noticed how bouncy and floaty the Jeep felt while driving.

I'm concerned that the shocks might be blown, but I can't imagine how they'd be blown while they're almost new. I saw online some folks were saying to wait a few days as they might settle a bit.

Any thoughts on what might be happening?

You'd know if they were blown, they would show damage. Most likely it's because they're designed to be paired with the stiffer springs on the rubi.

What tire pressure are you running? We named our JTR Tigger because of how bouncy the ride was, but dropping tire pressure to 35 PSI helped a lot. 35's finished calming things down.

My rubi does not feel bouncy. I'm very pleased with the ride, it's not harsh at all. I would say there is some amount of float to it.

Because it's matched with the Rubicon springs and the weight of the Rubicon itself.
My Overland has max tow springs on the rear, the lighter Rubicon springs up front and the Rubicon fox shocks all 4 corners and yes, the rear feels bouncy. Not the front because of 100+ pounds of winch, skid plate and steel bumper I put up there, dropping the front of the truck down again.
But going across certain dips or bumps, the rear of my truck now does 2 to 3 oscillations instead of the simply up/down or even up/down/up it used to do. It never did more than one cycle with the stock Overland shocks and springs.
These shocks aren't well matched for the max tow springs or the weight of my truck, or something is off.
I've heard others echo exactly how mine is since putting Rubicon shocks on it.
It's not horrible, but if I was still doing alignment and suspension for customers, I'd tell them their shocks are getting worn/weak. That's how it feels - like old shocks.

Yeah, there's a science to shock tuning. I don't know anything about the spring rates on these trucks, but it sounds like the rubi springs may just be taller and not stiffer.

The shocks are likely too soft and aren't properly damping the springs. If you want to, you can switch to a stiffer shock like falcon. I love my falcon sp2 2.1's. The ride is planted - no bounce or float, and mine are set on the "soft" setting. I came from oem sport shocks, but it's the same general principle - they're too soft and let the springs boss them around, resulting in a floaty, bouncy ride

I put the Rubi springs in with the Rubi shocks, no bounce or float for me. Compression is far more controlled now with the fox shocks.

You and Papa both having the max tow springs in the rear instead of the Rubi springs makes me suspect that combo isn't a good match for each other.
