I don't understand the hatred of the ESS it's one of the features I like on the vehicle. Sitting at a light or drive through throwing gas through the engine for no reason seems stupid to me.

I wish the seat was a bit closer to the floor. If i sit with my butt all the way back my feet don't touch... YAY being short. :( Most of the time it's nice being shorter than average. I'm also more comfortable in cars where the seat is closer to the floor. More of a recliner position than a formal chair position.
I think burning out a starter from stopping and starting so many times is costlier in the long run than a few drops of gas saved…

It's a very heavy duty starter-- that's pretty much the standard industry wide now. Besides, starters are cheap and easy to replace anyway.

Are the starters on these things that shoddy? I can't remember the last time i even heard about someone needing to replace their starter. You sound like the Jeep finance guy that tried to tell me the electronics they install are so shoddy i should buy an extended warranty.

Even with the ESS I'll get enough highway miles I'll wear out a lot of other components before the starter goes. That said the fuel savings could in the long run pay for a starter. Even if it saves you 0.25 mpg which is possible by some accounts, that's $287 at $2.8 a gallon over 150k miles.

I have no Idea. I’m not a mechanic or an automotive engineer. But I would think that if you shut your car off and started it again manually ever time you stepped on the brakes you would eventually wear it out. But again what do I know?

You sound angry. do you always get this way when someone posts something you don’t like or agree with?

I don't get the hate, I like the ESS I just wish it was programed a little better. Like it restarting when I throw it into park

If it is some kind of super heavy duty starter that won’t burn out, I have no problem with the function. That’s really my only concern. I had a Jeep mechanic tell me that’s the reason he wouldn’t buy one the last time I brought it in for some warranty work because there are too many electronics and complicated features.

I thought his statement was a little strange because you can turn the feature off. As for the ret of the stuff, I do t see it being any more or less complicated than any other new vehicle.

After the location of the window switches the next in line for me is the fact that the license plate lights point directly into the backup camera.
Directly? OK, I get your meaning, but I've read about people complaining about that for about 2 years and mine just hasn't been an issue - maybe if I was hooking a trailer up at night, but a member has a solution in the forum, too. He applied a film to those lights - problem solved. Still lights the plate but there's no glare in the camera.
So far mine hasn't been an issue and I back down my driveway when I come home - even at night - and use the camera to guide me down the driveway.
There must be some differences? If mine ever did get annoying I'd find the post that guy made and get the film to put on mine.

Do some research - and I don't mean the "I hate ESS dot com" web sites so many individuals - any uninformed person can and does put up with their own "opinion" with no facts.
These starters are NOT those of yesteryear. They are not using bushings, they use bearings, the brushes are totally different, everything about them is different. The whole system has been designed to more than handle it. And - it's a smart system - the PCM knows where each piston is and times the injectors accordingly, thus the starter only needs to make it go about a revolution to get it started. Warm starts aren't the killers - you starting it in the morning is what wears things.
Plenty of factual info out there.
I'm not pro or con, for or against, what I am against is the laughable stuff I see on the web out there about these.

Get used to it - it's here to stay and likely will be on even more vehicles because the rules are getting stricter, the CAFE rules are getting tighter, and some places are passing anti-idling laws. I've a PDF showing the laws around the country as of a couple of years ago - it's coming our way.

It’s a thought (putting tint on them). Maybe my eyes are just sensitive. Both the window switches and license plate lights are annoyances. My Mojave is not for sale. ?

The JT is so much more comfortable than my JK and the 8speed and diesel work together really well. There are only two things I wish they did better, that the trail cam would turn on when moving forward slow speed (parallel parking) and that the front suspension didn't bottom out so easily. At least the later can be fixed.

No not angry just another socially inept engineer. Well maybe a bit angry with the Jeep finance guy that MFer i wanted to punch him. Trying to tell me the vehicle I'm buying is a POS and i need an extended warranty. I asked him "Is this vehicle built so poorly I should walk away from this sale?" Oh boy he backpedaled on that.

I have a manual so i don't have the park thing. That is SUPER stupid. Lets start the car again right when the driver is goign to turn it off.

Hate - nothing, it's the nicest Jeep I've owned (4th one) and I've had some really nice ones. Yep there are things that are specific to Jeep like the window switches, etc. but it's a Jeep thing.

Love - It's not a fancy car with all the gadgets and nanny systems and that's what I wanted. I gave up a Santa Fe Limited Ultimate to have the freedom to take the top off and go anywhere. All the bells and whistles telling me to do stuff got tiring. Yeah it's not my two door soft-top with a 6sp manual but boy is thing a blast to take on trips and load the grandkids in so I can see the smiles on their faces.
