Before:
It would have been a black '55 two door hardtop (same as the one my dad brought me home in from the hospital) IF one that was complete and not a complete rust bucket had been available for less than $10,000 in 2011. I paid $4500 for this big window '55 as an homage to my Dad's '59 Fleetside. It ran, but poorly. Had already been swapped from 235 six cylinder/3 speed to a 283 w/350 TH automatic and from 6 lugs to 5 lugs with Chevy ten bolt rear end. Bed was immaculate for a 60 year old pickup, rust in kick panels & cab corners only.

Its First Iteration:
Changed all fluids, filters, belts, hoses, redid radiator, rebuilt carburetor and put a new Edelbrock dual plane intake manifold on, cleaned up engine with Chevy orange, got take-off tires to put on Craigslist Torq Thrust knock-offs. Rattled canned the entire truck in Rustoleum Satin Sage green. I liked how it looks but the 283 had one nearly dead cylinder and it rode like a buckboard. Drove it like this for 4 years.

Rodstoration (As it stands for now):
I lied to myself and told me I was building my post retirement daily driver! Tore it down to install Fatman Fabrications IFS kit, one-thing-led-to-another ("slippery slope") took it down to the frame. Installed Flat-out Engineering's IFS using Corvette C4 components. A mildly-cammed 6.0 LS, Holley fuel injection, 4l80e trans, Ford 8.8 limited slip 3.73 rearend flipped on top of leaf springs. Dakota HDX gauges, 17" Boyds Smoothies I found cheap but had to have straightened and pro polished. And on and on!

Omg, Open the Birthday Already! and do I see a straight from the barrel on the top shelf?
The Birthday Bourbon has been opened since this picture was taken. It was a 2017 bottle and it is delicious. I don't have a SFTB, but what you're seeing is a Blanton's Gold from the UK before they were available here in the U.S.

I learned to drive in a 56 chevy truck. Straight 6 with a 4 on the floor and both the high beam and starter being on the floor. Remember, as a kid, how hard it was to shift from 2nd to third because of how far the shifter had to go and how small I was.

I learned to drive on my dad’s ‘55 Belair also with a 6 cylinder but a 3 speed on the column of course. My truck still has the floor mounted high beam switch but of course the starter switch is long gone

Interesting thing about me putting the 4l85e in my truck is that it would not fit under the flat 3 speed trans cover that was stock on my truck. But when those trucks were equipped with the 4 speed like you drove the trans cover had a big hump in it. I used that on mine and it covered the modern trans with no cutting, no issues.

After learning to drive that truck, I don't get what people are complaining about the Jeep's "loose" steering, feels tight to me. LOL
