Dayum...Cracked Windshield At Only 550 Miles

Well shite ... a semi truck kicked up a rock and now I have a nicely crack windshield. Truck is not even a month old. Happened right at 550 miles. DAMMIT!

What is the average out of pocket if, when getting it replaced under insurance, getting the Gorilla glass windshield installed vs. the original OEM. if I am allwed to pay the difference?

Not sure of the cost but I am in your boat, my windshield cracked about 700 miles and not signs of rock hit it just well cracked.

I had the same thing happen, abut 3 months in and 6,000 miles. I just had the windshield replaced yesterday actually.

I have the standard glass, looks like the windshield replacement warranty paid Safelight $481.18 for the OEM glass - non-Gorilla. Not the exact answers you were looking for, but I hope it helps.

Yes, sorry should have provided further info. My dealer's FI office recommended the only thing I purchase from them be a 5-year/$3,000 windshield replacement warranty from a third party for $399.00. It looks to have just paid for itself.

To paraphrase a comedian whose name I can’t remember “They can fake putting a man on the moon but they can’t invent glass for Jeeps that doesn’t perpetually crack”.?

Yup....and I saw it too. It was self sabotage from my front passenger tire.

Mine got a rock chip above where I could see it and the first real cold day I needed my defroster cracked it. I'm less than 5000 miles currently. I have a $0 deductible with glass coverage so it's not costing me anything. Insurance has already approved the claim and its being replaced Monday morning.

Bummer. the original glass rocks to. I have glass insurance just for this reason, but oddly, I have not had to use it with almost 29,000 miles on my JT. I've had 1 crack fixed and thats it. I'd say I'm lucky. Good luck in the future. and see you on the trails at some point.

Interesting, how far outside of your rear fenders are your tires? I had this happen on my XJ twice, both times because I had no fenders really and the rocks just flew out.

There is a fair amount of ‘poke’. I do have the mopar mudflaps but they don’t really provide much protection.
