Doing great. Thanks. I’ve done some light towing - 2700lb atv trailer and it was much better than stock, especially on hills and starts. It’s great offroad too! I’m noticing some gas mileage hit now that it’s broken in and I’m not babying it. Getting about 14mpg on winter fuel on 5.13 gears, 37s and about 600lbs of tools, armor, etc added. Likely driver and all the crap I lug around and I’m not worried about MPG too much. seems about 1-2 mpg less than stock clutch but not sure I was consistently lugging as much stuff then and there was summer blend fuel so hard to tell. Planning a cross country camping trip this summer - over 6500miles from Pennsylvania to Yellowstone and back. No worries about the clutch!

That's good mpg for a truck loaded down like yours!

After seeing all the clutch talk - I can't figure out why Jeep didn't use these clutches (such as Centerforce) as OEM clutches.

Probably comes down to what they perceive the average user wants. A soft clutch. And that kind of sucks because these days, the "average" user doesn't buy manual anyway. I'm really surprised they used a twin disc clutch from the factory though.

Absolutely correct. The average user will buy an automatic. Only someone who really wants and knows about manual transmissions would (or should) buy one. My knees and hips are getting old but I can still handle most clutches. (except the damn clutch in my friends GTO - man, I almost have to use both legs to hold that baby down)

I was getting 16mpg when I was babying it during break in. Keep really should use a Centerforce clutch. I would’ve paid extra from the factory (obviously).

I definitely would have paid for the upgrade.

See - now we have a market. I think Jeep is somewhat just going through the morons (edit motions - Freudian slip ??) with the manual transmission and will give in soon - it’s sad.
@JeepCares please pass on to Jeep brand boss - Jim Morison that the JL/JT clutch is weak. We want Centerforce! lol ?.

The factory may be constrained by the autostart requirements and really threaded the needle just to get a manual option out. I bet the bean counters can't wait to delete the option.

I will note the stock clutch action, after it finally bedded in, is quite nice. Its just that the funky flywheel just requires a lot of slipping when off the line grunt is needed.

I agree. I also think Jeep is trying to push people into costlier automatics. The clutch slipping can be concerning when you have a loaded trailer and need to start on a hill. The worst was backing a loaded trailer (backing from a start up a hill required 4lo to protect the weak clutch). Those concerns (and smell of burning clutch) are all in the past with the Centerforce set up- simple, tough and grippy single clutch design with a heavier flywheel does the trick and seems to suit a truck much better than the car-like stock clutch.

as previously mentioned, lighter feel but it’s also quieter.
Our 08 ram 3500 plow truck grenaded it’s flywheel one morning. Thankfully it was in the driveway. Now runs a center force for the last few years, works extremely well but holy it’s hard on my bad knee (torn ACL)

Hopefully the bronco keeps them honest. I fear the manual will die when the I6 comes out, though. Glad I got one while I could. I've never smelled the burning clutch in the JT, though. But then again, no trailer.

I only burned mine once (in my JL) towing a minivan out of a ditch in reverse (so I could see it). Smelled for 2 days... Should have thought about using 4LO to reduce the amount of slipping I had to do... when offroading in 4LO I hardly even have to use the skinny pedal, I just let out the clutch and go!

Should always try to avoid trying to tow/pull something stuck in reverse. While your reverse gear has a better ratio, the issue comes from putting force on the coast side of the gears in your differentials . The ramp of the coast gear can cause the gears to try push apart and can break teeth
