I programmed my homelink to open my garage door. Only problem is that I can’t seem to get it to work without starting the truck (like it doesn’t have power unless the vehicle is running). All of my previous vehicles allowed me to open my garage door before staring the vehicle …..this doesn’t seem safe. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

My Tacoma allowed me to do it without the engine one, but the Subaru won't.

With Jeep it’s a security issue that could allow someone to use your Jeep to open your garage if it’s parked without doors. That’s why it requires the key fob to at least set it to run. Don’t need to start it though.

@Summitdan has it 100% right. It's so it can't be used if the doors or top are off. But you don't have to start the engine. Just needs be in in acc or run.
I don’t think mine works in ACC, but I could be wrong.

This is a security thing, I don't use any homelink that doesn't need the key as all it takes is a door left unlocked on accident and you gave them access to your house.

Tazer can allow the homelink to work after the vehicle has been turned off.

I thought it might, but I agree with @bleda2002 that I’d rather the security. It took a week to get used to and now it doesn’t bother me to hit the button twice. Mostly I now just remember to hit the button before I kill the engine

But it will only be active for like 30 seconds after you turn off the ignition !

It’s not active at all after the ignition is off.

It’s not even a doorless thing. On other vehicles of other mfrs that I’ve had it’s still the same deal. Do you really want for someone to be able to bash your window out when your vehicle is in your driveway and reach inside and be able to open your garage door? I don’t.

Exactly. One of our old vehicles allowed you to use Homelink to open the garage without starting or even having the fob. I always hated that. Super unsafe. Leave your door unlocked and anyone can get in your house. I prefer to have to have the car on.
