Secondly look at the fiasco with 3g shutting down and the impact it is having on cars with 3g telemetry, you think what ever cell tech that is in our jeep is going be around in 10 years?
And this means that likely we will be losing our one and only source of internet because our current router can at least switch back and forth when 4g drops due to weather, whatever, we at least have 3G.

OH, well simply go to 5G - right? That's what many of you are thinking? Well, the head of one of the carriers said- that will leave many people in the US without cell service. 5G is very limited in range. It's like WiFi speeds - the faster technology doesn't get through barriers as well or go as far. 5G will mean hundreds of thousands of people without service.

Testing has shown that 5G service range in mmWave has produced results approximately 500 meters from the tower, meaning a huge propagation of MIMO-enabled antenna arrays would be required for pure standalone 5G deployment.
From a pure antenna standpoint - such as where I live - good freaking luck -
4G wavelengths have a range of about 10 miles. 5G wavelengths have a range of about 1,000 feet, not even 2% of 4G's range.

5G will be great for those who play games, watch TV on their phone, spend their lives on the phone in meetings or watching videos or that sort of thing. It will be the death of service in rural areas.

4G is iffy for much of the country - it's a given we are years away from reliable 5G in those areas.

So I should be ok having paid jeep extra money for the $600+ telemetry system that is now standard and sends anonymous data to Mopar for their financial benefit, and expect no return on a system that I paid for that doesn't benefit me?

I am talking 5 and 7 unconnect, if you are getting a jeep with 8.4 system you know it's wired to the mother ship for the features you want.

All i am saying is for this conversation, we assume all jeeps have some sort of telemetry system that uses a 4g network and info is sent back to jeep for mopars profit and benefit. We paid for this system whether we wanted it or not though the base cost of the jeep.

What if i don't want to play their game how can i stop a device that i paid for stop sending data to mopar or how can i can I get a piece of the action?

Secondly look at the fiasco with 3g shutting down and the impact it is having on cars with 3g telemetry, you think what ever cell tech that is in our jeep is going be around in 10 years? and if not what kinda of headache will that cause us? Automotive is going to get very interesting the more connected computers system are added and technology changes and gets left behind.

We are at that point, where with a connected car, it can be shut down because some software coding can't phone home and get some bit's and bytes that say run.

Some of us just want dumb simple machines that turn on and off.

If I own a device I want to be in charge, not someone else pulling the strings, for their short term profit, I don't want my car to become a paper weight when a technology moves on or ppl making money off things i funded without getting a cut.

is that to much to ask?
If you know all that, why didn’t you buy an older Jeep without the technology you don’t prefer to use?

@Summitdan, I had a older jeep with limited tech, and i wanted one that was just like it but quieter, had more power, more room, and drove on the highway better. All things that don't require connected communication to deliver those functions.

Alas they don't make that and the JT is the closest thing that meets my needs, but is now fraught with excess tech. I have a jeep to get away from the connected life.

But we are on a tangent, the point of this tread is to understanding the tech pressed upon us, and how to control it.

I think we can all agree this thread has gone from an “is there an off switch” to, well, this. Members here ask all the time for help turning something off (e.g., ESS), or something on (e.g., LED headlights). We spend hundreds/thousands of dollars for things and gizmos that alter vehicle settings, features, and/or mechanics. I think some requests are brilliant, and to be honest, some make no sense to me. If someone wants to turn something on or off for their own reasons - then more power to them. Just don’t hurt anyone in the process is all I personally ask.

So having said all that. I believe the answer to the OP’s original question is “no”. At least for right now. If someone figures out an off - it would be nice to hear about. If for nothing else than to know it’s something else we can change on our Jeeps. And we all love changing things on our Jeeps.

I’m going back to looking at wheel and bumper p?rn.

Love it. Phone might not work quite as well. :)
But for those who truly and honestly want to be disconnected - it's a way. Can always turn it off if you NEED to make a call - or, stop at a gas station and use the pay phone outside.

it's really just 2 posters that are trying to force their opinion on a thread and take it down a non constructive path just to hear themselves talk............

Contact the Tazer guy - granted it would be only when running, but they can at least tell you if there's anything accessible that could be done with their device. I wonder if there's some protocol or address they could temporarily modify while the truck is running to block outgoing traffic.

So is it only the 8.4 that has the capability to send and receive data from Jeep? The 5" and 7" do not have it correct?

Bravo. You get it. I'll be experimenting with disconnecting the LTE antenna in the spring. I'll report back to this thread.

Right. The suggestion that if you don't want to be monitored, you should buy an older Jeep is simple minded and ridiculous. There was no pre-telematics, pre-canbus Gladiator.

This tech isn't going away. So people need to figure out a way to disable it. Like I said above, I will be experimenting with disabling the LTE modem above the roll bar once its warm and I can remove the top to access it.

I'm not even sure what "this" is anymore.
