Just a guess but I would be surprised if insurance does not try to fix it. My wife's 13 was hit hard in the rear and they fixed it, and that was in 2017 before prices got so bad. I took my2020 Sport S in for a oil change last week and the dealer offered me $40.000 for it with 41,000 miles on it.

There’s a big difference between what an insurance company values a vehicle at, versus what a dealer is willing to pay for it. I would be very surprised if this didn’t get totaled. Totaling to an insurance company is basically a formula to determine how much % of the total vehicle it costs to repair it to an acceptable level. If that price goes over that % limit it’s written off.

Each state has laws on when a vehicle is considered totaled, so if they try to fix it and the math works contrary to state law, he can shove it in their collective faces and say hell no.
The problem is that Colorado's laws SUCKS that way. In other states it can be 50% of market value plus salvage value, for CO it's 100% so if the truck was worth $45,000 and the salvage value is $10,000 they can spend up to $35,000 fixing it and that's crazy, IMO. That's one of the worst laws I've seen.

IMO, there's no fixing that. You can bet the engine bay is trashed, possible damage to the engine and other major components.
I'd insist on front axle, all steering and suspension components, frame, and I'd insist the whole engine be pulled and inspected for cracks - including transmission and bell housing area.
Things get cracked with that sort of impact.
Looks like transmission fluid or something on the ground, so there's work there, too.
No way I'd want THAT truck back again.

Just depends on the state. It's 100% here.

Aww man that sucks. I would request a payout like Papa said, man these new vehicles have SO much small stuff that can get damaged. They can save your life good enough but fixing is way more than it's worth. Unless it was a classic old chevell or super bee or something...

If it were me I would not only request a payout but I would go so far as to say they owe you the cost of an entirely new vehicle. Because these gladiators haven't been out long enough to really depreciate much - and if anything crazy markets are making used vehicles in some cases cost more than new.

Shadow - could you expand on what you mean how they determine total or not more please? I've never understood it.

Ouch! Sorry that happened and happy you're okay! In that situation i'd have a hard time deciding against another JT, a JL or (depending on funds) a 392 JL. I love having a truck/bed for hauling things, and I'd never have a truck if Jeep didn't make one, wouldn't trade it out at the moment. That being said, there's something about a Wrangler that speaks to my soul.

That’s very true which is why they use different formulas of % of value depending on locality. Another thing is most of the time if the airbags deploy, insurance will automatically write off the vehicle because now you have to replace the crash sensors, the airbag and other related SRS parts and pieces in addition to the actual crash damage.

It's far better in Iowa - A car is considered a total loss in Iowa when the cost of repairs plus the salvage value is at least 70% of the vehicle's actual cash value. They JUST raised it in the last year! It was 50% - looks to me like some industry lobbyists got to them!

Now in Iowa, if it's FMV is $46,000 and salvage is $10,000 they can spend $22,200

In states with the 100% law, if the vehicle is worth $46,000 and the salvage value is $10,000 they could spend $36,000 to fix it. That's crazy, IMO.
