Nuke is the way to go. It's the cheapest per KW to product. The problem with it is what to do with the waste, the cost of getting permits (avg cost is around $7 billion) and the NIMBY's.
Eh, I’ve got 82 acres in north central CO that I’ll gladly let the fuel waste in current long term storage containers be buried on! Those things are no joke, and no expense spared. I guess that makes me an IMBY!!!!
Oh yeah, and price of DEF still bad.

So $10-$11/gal for DEF?? WTF, water w a little urea in it. The absolute greed of the big corps, i hope they all choke on it and die
At least we don't hear about makers *cooking* the software to pass the test. VW rings a bell....and others.

The problem is that it takes a lot more crude to make 1 gallon of diesel than 1 gallon of gas, so technically the consumer may get more mpg, but it takes more crude to get there. So if we all moved to diesel, we'd need more crude to do it.
Off and on is bad for diesel, it's at its worst when in stop and go driving. That's when the real "dirt" comes out, NOX and things London has found is impacting health in the city.
Constant higher speed, highway speeds and modern "cleaning systems" clean them up, but the fact is, most wouldn't be used that way - they'd be used in stop and go where things get dicey for them.
NYT even had a piece on that a while back.
As far as diesels running in a garage and not killing you - uh, same for cars with gas engines. Modern cars don't crank out CO like in the past so those TV shows where the producers don't do their research and still to this day show someone committing suicide by car in a closed garage - the person may as well take a couple meals, maybe some popcorn. They'll be there a while.
I thought both diesel and gasoline were byproducts of the refining process for crude. Not necessarily that it's 1 or the other, but both came out at x% per gallon of crude. More gasoline than diesel, but ya... are you telling me my thought pattern on this has been wrong for years? Honestly question.

***Never mind I saw my answer in another post. 19-20gal gas and like 12-14 of diesel from a 42gal drum of crude. I thought they were 50gal oil drums but whatever. Don't remember who posted that but thanks.***

The refinery here recently ceased production of Gas and has went to Bio-Diesel only. Would like to know why.

Which refinery? I have friends in Wamsutter that work in a refinery.

I had a Ram with the Italian made diesel. 7k miles cratered. Chevy also uses the 4 pot from the same manufacture. Too bad fiat can’t throw the Cummings with an Allison. That would be bad ass

The big 3 must have made a deal with the GOV. If the entire cycle of my Duramax was took into consideration for emissions, it would fail current standards. During the regen process raw fuel is dumped into the exhaust just to get temps high enough the clean the dpf. That 30 minute cycle could not possibly be included in the pollution test. I believe it is ignored and only normal engine operation was used for EPA approval. I'm sure extra DEF is injected during the regen cycle. My Duramax emission failures scared me away from the diesel model of the Gladiator. Things will get better with emissions over time. VW is a leader with automotive diesel regardless that the software was rigged. I have a few and love them.

Lost1wing, I had two VW Jetta diesels. Enjoyed both. Second one I chipped. It was stinking fast! 2001 TDi.

I’ve been paying $25/2.5 gallons of DEF since I bought my truck in April 2021. I’m about to buy another box so we’ll se how that goes. But generally, I don’t use a lot of DEF. I’m buying the “premium” DEF which is probably stupid.

Locally, diesel peaked at $5.25 and then went down to $4.89-5.09 but I’ve been consistently paying $.35 - $.45 gallon less at BJs. I think that’s interesting. I found 2 Wawas with a $.45/gallon delta within a few miles. There’s no doubt a lot of retail-level shenanigans.

As for the global oil prices, oil companies have been repeatedly telling their investors why prices are high as well as the Dallas Fed Energy Survey. There’s no conspiracy or mystery, nor quick solution.

“investor pressure to maintain capital discipline”

Now, what I do think is pretty fishy is the surge in cost of Kong Stuff’n.

my truck runs fine with an empty tank of washer fluid. it pisses me off that i need to rely on the availability of muffler fluid.
