Hey folks. Just got a 2021 Gladiator 80th with 36k miles from Carmax. I was spraying the undercarriage and red mud started pouring out from every hole in it. Spraying upward, it even started coming into the truck bed through the holes where the tie down hooks are.

Thinking this thing might have been sunk in mud. Should this raise a ton of red flags? Am I just being paranoid?

Sounds like that Gladiator has experience in what they were designed for. I say sit in the drivers seat, turn the key, put it in 4wd and take it for a ride off road. That jeep may teach you something. And dont forget, even a van gogh need's to be cleaned once and a while. If a little dirt is scaring you on a Jeep, well maybe you should have bought a Camaro.

Lol. A little mud doesn’t scare me, but there was mud all the way up to the cab.

What scares me is someone beating the hell out of the truck and then ditching it when the 36k warranty expires. Which the timeline adds up.

I bought.a slightly used Frontier like ten years ago and discovered the same thing. I was having the same thoughts, but it was completely fine. It was actually, a really good, very reliable truck.

I’d certainly keep looking for other warning signs though.

Then buy new. If not, well then just go with the flow and enjoy. You cannot blame a Jeep owner for doing what the add says it was built for.

yeah, I had a frontier previously and the shift on the fly 4x4 was obviously smooth. Putting the Jeep in 4HI takes some pressure. Is that typicallywith these newer Jeeps? My old TJ took a little force as well.

well… there’s that ridiculous markup on a new Jeep because of the name…

wasn’t faulting anyone for using something but there is a difference between abuse and use. Kind of like drinking alcohol, etc.

but thanks for your input.

Yes. It takes a lot of force. The more you use it, the less force, so that’s actually a good sign IMO.

This is the problem buying a used jeep. You don’t o ow how bad the previous owner beat it. Unless it’s a screaming sale especially in todays market new and used are pretty close in price

Tell you what. if you will send me the VIN, will CarFax it for you. If I don't get bombed, sent it to [email protected] or PM me. Provide a return email address. If there has been an insurance claim, it should show up as a flood vehicle.

Did you change the diffs, transfer case and maybe transmission oils just to be sure nothing was contaminated with water/mud, tadpoles or guppies?

With all due respect you should know the majority of people are gonna abuse Jeeps, for that specific purpose alone, that’s why I go new and with the inflation of the used car market now you don’t really pay that much more buying new

I paid $43k for this one. The equivalent at the dealership was $53k. That’s a pretty big difference.

Years ago I was camping with family at a dry lake bed during a down pour of heavy rain. The lake bed was covered with about 1/2 in of water. The lake bed became so much fun to drive on it was like driving on ice so much slipping and sliding. Kids all enjoyed wheeling in the mud. When I returned home from the camping trip the clean up began. I must have spent 6 hours flushing mud from the Jeep. Until the day I sold the Jeep anytime I washed it more mud would flush out. This mud never caused any mechanical, electrical or other problems. It’s a Jeep thing. I would do my best to flush the mud to prevent rust. If your Jeep was in some catastrophic flood carfax or maintenance records should give a clue about this. Good luck with the new Jeep.
