When did this become a thing? I’ve bought a LOT of stuff online over the past 20+ years and I can’t say that I’ve ever seen this before.

“There will be a 3% fee for all charges to credit cards after the initial sale.”

I've seen it for a long time, but typically advertised in reverse... as in you get a discount for cash money. Every vendor gets charged to used credit/debit cards by the credit card company. They are just passing to cost to you.

Yes, so you advertise a cash vs. credit price upfront. That’s not what this is.

I understand... just saying the ones that do the cash price are doing it for the same reason, not to pay CC fees... but after the sale ? so they quoted you a price and when you payed they tacked on CC fees afterwards without telling you ?

Yes. There was one price on the website. There wasn’t a “this is the case price” and “this is the credit price” notice.

I paid days ago, got a shipping notice, and THEN got the invoice with the disclaimer.

I reached out to the vendor, so I’ll see what they have to say. I.e. Maybe that language is obsolete and they didn’t get around to removing it, maybe whoever put it in there didn’t really understand what it meant, etc.

This is a popular vendor, lots of folks order from them, and I didn’t see any mention of this practice, so I have to assume this is some kind of mistake.

money order , check, paypal, vemo.......
Who takes check or money order for an online order? Sure, with a few companies, you can call it in, but not most, and then it isn't really online anymore. I was grouping PayPal/Venmo in with cards, because they charge (high) fees too.

Call the Credit Card company and complain, it's an unauthorized charge. They have to disclose up front that there is a fee for using a credit card. Also Call Mastercard/Visa (whoever is the backing company) as this is likely a violation of the Vendors Merchant agreement.
