On the ground here now, and the place looks great. I'll enjoy this gig, just for the weekends.
Does anyone know if there are any good Jeep clubs rolling in the neighborhood?
Thanks for the intel. I did Peters Mill a while back, and loved a long day solo in Uwharrie back in October. The rest are all new, and I’m definitely game. One of the reasons I took this temporary gig is to be in the heart of East Coast Jeep country, and I plan on taking full advantage!
Doing a six-month consulting assignment for my friends at Virginia Tech. That means busy days a free weekends in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Tips on any and all must-wheel areas are very welcome. I plan to hit as many trails as possible before fate tosses me somewhere else.
I enjoyed mine, and it's relatively tonneau friendly (rolling factory works, not sure about a hard trifold).
KB VooDoo 14" aluminum Max Modular, with storage box, traction board mount and tonneau brackets; with a Condor Overland RTT on top.
I did about 25K miles across 26 states this year, and...
And one moment crawling along Barney Rubble behind @TheOpa and @toddarama when I forgot what gravity can do after you drive over a chunk of granite (enjoy the audio around 0:30) ?
(Gents ... I have a high-res 4+ minute version of the Barney Rubble crawl. Let me know if you'd like a copy)
That’s just that moment when you’re spotting and super focused on getting the right wheel on the right rock, then you realize you better get yourself off that same rock!
Great day gents. Thanks for sharing the journey. I’ll post a few pics I have as soon as I get back home to the laptop.
Just hit the hotel, and now I have to look for chili! Bummer big @AmishMike. I agree. Come on out anyway. Any of us would love to have you spot and copilot.
OK. Now this is getting serious!
I'm stripped down and ready to rumble. Replacing the winch solenoid this weekend, so I'm ready to run some cable. Looking foward to driving, spotting and eating some chili.
All legit concerns, but all the Jeep drivers I know and love expect to die in their rig, or looking out on a yard covered with old war horses. That's what I bought into when I finally made the leap. At this point, my bet is on me going first.
Wrapping up about 30K in driving and camping for 2023, and converted it back down to daily driver mode. Milage went from 20 to 24 mpg (diesel) with the rack and tent off and the hard top back on. Still loving the color. I just have to paint those wheel rings to match.
If @AmishMike is in the game, then I'm locked in for the 3rd as well. I just signed up for the guided run through the BoH trails at Rausch Creek on the 11th, so November will be central PA month for me!
