In my experience it starts out subtle.
There would be a bump in the road that was rough, but the truck goes through it fine.
Then maybe 10K miles later the same bump induces a shake through the steering wheel.
Then 5K later the same bump would cause a shimmy that would oscillate the wheel a...
Nothing to add on your other questions - but as far as wheels go the black Mojave wheels was the factory wheel I was looking for when I settled for a set of Rubicon take offs. Hard to find Mojave take offs on the regular.
But I'm a cheapskate and don't care for the expense of aftermarket wheels...
Went fishing. Didnt catch much - one cute lil catfish. Followed the rain and lightning down to the lake as it passed.
Still was a relaxing first half to Saturday. Came back home about lunch time.
New Orleans across the lake.
The power steering fluid and the coolant reservoir in my truck were low right from new on my truck. Probably doesn't get enough cycles between the factory and being sold to get the levels right I guess.
Anyway - I added some power steering fluid and coolant and neither have gone anywhere since...
I don't think I'll be following suit if my intake is off, but I don't see anything wrong with the logic if you want to spend the money.
I have an injector pulser (its a little box I can run fuel injectors with on the bench) and adapters to spray cleaner through them while pulsing them - so I...
I still firmly agree that in the steering / suspension department, Jeeps are hot garbage. The parts are inadequate even in stock form and don't last nearly as long as parts in just about any other truck and SUV.
Comparing stock to stock for road going usage. I know someone is going to point out...
Last 5x8 U-Haul I pulled I stayed in 6th-7th gear at 60-70 MPH. Truck did its own thing in auto.
Should be fine long as he isn't filling the trailer full of gold bars and concrete 😬
Edit: The fenders say 55 MPH but the tires will hold up to 96 MPH no problem.
Not that I did that myself or...
The best tip I have has nothing to do with the Gladiator. The Gladiator is fine, needs no help with such a trailer.
The last UHaul trailer I had of that size though had a goofy ass square knob on the tongue to tighten the ball jaw down. Well, this one 'seemed' tight when turned down but wasn't...
'The tires go on the high spots' 😂
Over generalization but as a group of guys that drove 1500 miles to wheel then had to drive 1500 miles back, we relied on good spotting and good lines for minimal damage...
If my pockets were deep I'd surely let the shop down the Jeep shop down the road do the heavy lifting. Given my mechanical knowledge and experience with the last two Jeeps, there's nothing they would do that I can't fix myself on the trail.
Keep the electrical and lighting projects for myself...
Living in Livingston Parish in three years that truck is going to be such a rattle trap you won't be able to hear that particular noise anymore.
Passenger dash rattles on mine now, a particular road by my house always had something popping in the left rear of the cab, and my driver side door...
Not reading through all the comments, but:
Underbody skids to protect fuel tank, trans, engines. Yes, go for that.
Diff skids. No. Just put good solid diff covers on.
I'd only run a diff skid on an older JT that has the diff drain plug in the bottom of the front diff. I've seen that one work...
Update: Getting a slight wobble in the front end again.
That one ton drag link won't give so I guess the tie rod or the ball joints are showing their weakness now.
So 42,000 miles on stock size tires and the Dollar Store, lowest bidder, poorly designed front end parts have all just about failed.
If I could afford to, I'd send the truck to the shop for anything that requires a wrench or socket bigger than 15MM 😂
Or if it requires more than one wack with a hammer.
It's not that I'm not capable - it's that I'm getting to where I honestly don't care to fool with it. I've done enough...
