I drilled into the plastic plug also (like the photo above) just before I had the Line-X done. It came out very neat and professional looking.

My guess is the hole that I’ve circled receives a stud on the bottom of the part that is pushed to the left. Lift the part to allow the 2 to hook together. Better yet, get the dealer to warranty it so if it breaks they’ll have to replace it.
