When you try your 4 low the first time, you may experience trouble disengaging. It helps to back up a little if you can to help unbind any torque in the system. But the main thing is that you must pouch the transfer case lever straight through neutral to 4 hi before leaning left to go up to 2...
Going to 4 hi is a cinch. To hit 4 low I also, whenever possible, do it at a very slow roll. Be sure to look at the diagram on the knob. The transfer case can be a bit stiff, but the shift becomes easier with use.
