Motorcycle riders usually lower their arm and hold out a few fingers to other riders. When my doors were off I noticed a few bikes that waved to me, threw me off but I returned. I also notice more of the Wrangler crowd waves with successive steps of removing the roof (more for full roof off than only freedom panels) and even more waving with roof and doors off. Having mud on it seems to help too.

In general most of the Jeeple that wave are Wranglers and now Gladiators. It's said this comes from ye olden days when troops driving the Jeeps during the war weren't supposed to salute, so they did a mini wave. This trend continued with the CJ and all through the Wranglers now. In the civilian Jeeps it was a sign of comradery as the vehicles sort of sucked ass and it took a "special" kind of person that drove it. you waved because you were in that club of few people. Now the tradition carries on in the Wranglers, and since our trucks are slightly truncated JLs with a bed on the back, we inherited the wave too. Some Wranglers don't think we're worthy so won't wave to us *shrugs*.

I've noticed a lot of women don't wave, so I don't wave at them anymore first. If they wave first I have no problem giving it back :) The other Jeep models don't get waves in general because they don't 'come from that bloodline'. Some people on here will wave to the old XJs and other older models of Jeep (and fewer still will wave to older models of offroaders). Don't offended if other models don't wave back, they aren't really a part of that :P

This is funny to me.

When a JT is coming at me I literally cannot tell the difference between it and a JL. It's hard to imagine how one would discriminate against a Gladiator when one cannot tell the difference head-on between it and a Wrangler.

I remember the first Jeep wave I gave a Gladiator. I was in my Wrangler, thought it was a JL, waved, got waved back, and then realized it was a Gladiator. I literally thought to myself "was I suppose to wave", and then figured since they waved back it was all good.

I suspect anyone who thinks you shouldn't do such had a similar incident, but instead felt "tricked" or some such. ?‍♂

I wave, when I remember. This is my 5th Jeep and wave returns have declined over the years...

I think you're right, I missed that memo. Enlighten me please. Am I to understand there are classes of Jeeps and that some classes don't bother waving to others? If that's the case, then quite frankly that sucks ass and makes me not like the entire thing very much.
I cant see waving at all the jeep models. Someone who bought a renegade or grand Cherokee I don't think they bought them for the "lifestyle". My basic rule is if the doors and top come off I'll wave. This includes old branco's, Defenders and FJ40's.

I noticed I get more waves when I had my JKU than my JT but it's only been 3 days. Sometimes I get confused since I have a motorcycle and drive a state truck at work, have to remember what I am operating and who to wave at.

Hit a wave storm at an intersection this weekend. Me, another JT, and 2 wranglers all with tops/doors off. I just held my hand out the top and did the wave in a big circle to everyone at once as I pulled through :)

I wave at wranglers and gladiators. Well wranglers get the two finger wheel thing... gladiators get a full on unmissable wave.

I tried the wave at all jeeps thing... 0% back also a random jeep must pass by every 3 cars or so... kinda glad they dont.

A wrangler is probably 1 in 10 cars around here for whatever reason. That is enough waving as it is.

Honestly I actually hated the jeep wave thing, had no plans to participate then on a particularly bad day, getting a fews waves really picked up my spirits.

Now I'm in. You don't have to wave back. Sometimes I can't either.

Saturday I got a wave, as I had one hand turning on the wheel and the other putting it in first gear... was an odd angle so didn't anticipate the wave anyhow...

Well, was lucky enough to pass them a few minutes later and return the wave. Smiles all around.

Usually its gladiators I don't get waved back at from, only got a few back but dont really see them tons, maybe one a drive or so.

when a wrangler doesn't wave back it is always some ultra modded out one... not sure if thats connected, just observation.

There is.

CJs, Wranglers and Gladiators wave. That's it. Maybe XJs but not current gen front wheel drive bias Cherokee.

It really should be called the Wrangler wave or something else. Though that would imply CJs and Gladiators are included so made that doesn't work.

I own a Cherokee (2016). I've never waved to anyone while driving it and no one has every waved to me.

It was like that back when I owned my YJ and TJ too. That's how it is.

Sorry if you're disappointed.

Now stop waving at Fiats.

Lots a waves here in North Carolina around the Charlotte NC-Concord Kannapolis area. Wait until your driving another vehicle and start waving at jeeps only to remember that your not in your Jeep, makes for a awkward situation:blush:

My “hit rate” on Jeep’s returning waves is probably 50/50 around town.

I’m in the Dallas suburbs so I’ll see 5 Jeep’s just running to the grocery store. Heck, I know of almost 10 Jeep’s within a 5 minute jog from my house... 6 JKs, 2 JTs, and a JL... and those are just the ones I know that park on the street! Bottom line, there are a LOT of Jeep’s. My arm would fall off if I waved at everybody. But I do still wave if I’m passing near someone and I’m pretty sure they see me. Not so much if there’s a median.

My hit rate is definitely higher on country roads...Approaching 100%.

I no longer pay attention. I wave when I see a Jeep, I don't look for a wave back, if I see one great. I too have missed or been late on a wave because I was looking in the mirror or grabbing a drink and didn't see the other Jeep till late.
