You can not go wrong with the TAGS ...SAMSUNG just came out with the latest Gen 2 .. 4 for less than $70 is a win .. put these things in everything !!!!! even a laptop .. open it up and tape one to the mother board. Amazon.com: SAMSUNG SmartTag2 (2023) Bluetooth + UWB, IP67 Water and Dust Resistant, Findable via App, 1.5 Year Battery Life (4-Pack) - Black/White : Electronics
LOL - you must have an older laptop. My Lenovo doesn't have room for anything over the thickness of a piece of paper.
Too bad that the UWB capability isn't in all phones, or all Samsung phones even.
That's a heck of a price for 4 of them. I can see putting them in anything worth stealing.

They scumb8gs took a Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 .. its an older latop but that thing is small and compact and flips into a tablet ..(Most EMS/FIRE crews carry these cause of the portability) but if you open the laptop up .. the new Samsung tags are really flat not like the prior generation.

Someone steals your ride and drives away ... and the vehicle shuts off and an 18 Wheeler t-bones the driver side of the stolen jeep at 50 mph I would not lose a wink of sleep. I have no remorse for Criminals and especially thieves. If I install a device and get named in a wrongful death suit .. it is what it is.. I will deal with it when and if that happens....
it's the others I'd be concerned about - the family driving along and getting killed by a vehicle that suddenly stops. Innocents get injured or die.

There's no way I'd use any device setting that would allow a vehicle to move, then disable it.
Preventing it from moving - yeah, that's great, and good that they have finally realized - hey, anyone who knows how to steal a Jeep knows about tazer and how it can simply be unplugged to kill the pin functionality - and now they have worked around that. Great.
But to disable a vehicle that may be in traffic - naw. Risk lives of others just to prevent a theft? Sorry, not me. Nothing is worth that.

You'd feel differently if that suit you were named in were the parents of someone not involved in the theft.
Like I said - there's a reason vehicles aren't stopped while they are being driven without the fob. There's good reason they can keep driving it until shut off.

Anyone who allows a car to be stopped in traffic just to prevent a theft will get what they deserve if someone else dies. If someone thinks stopping a theft is more important than protecting life - I'd be one of them coming after them if that vehicle was allowed to move and then stopped later and the resulting accident killed one of my own.

Heck, a candy company is being sued because the candy inside doesn't look identical to the picture on the wrapper. Really? come on people!

As you've said, this is a public forum. I don't know how much you want to be telling your carjackers what you are doing to help prevent the next theft.

And that's one reason I've only alluded to some ideas I have - but no detail. VERY easy to do some of these things without any fancy devices - just a bit of thinking.
Layers is the best approach.
A pro will likely still get it - they'll not need to drive it away, but you can slow them down a lot.
Trackers are a way to help find 'em in most cases, but even those will fail with some cases of theft. Once a vehicle leaves a populated area or gets stowed into a container or whatever, it's gone.
But you can make it tough as heck for them to get it with layers of protection. Never rely on one solution. Make it really hard to start it or move it, then if that fails, have a way to track it. Best thing is a solution that notifies you the instant something is going on. Time counts.

For the thieves out there reading this, I stay up all night with my ghillie suit on and my cross hairs focused on my parking area..

That is until those smart tags show up. They are definitely better than what I have now.

24hr surveillance and motion triggers my cell at home. In the wild, nothing. I could activate the pin with Tazer.

I agree, make it hard as possible to delay them from driving off. I only need a max time frame of 2 minutes after my cellular notifications and other motion notifications go off. Then it's game on. Unless they come with a Tow Truck next time, they ARE NOT DRIVING MY JEEP AWAY.... I'm that confident about that. 100%.

UPDATE : 1-3-24

I REVIEWED THE VIDEO SURVIELANCE WHERE MY JEEP WAS PARKED.

I am even more pissed off now knowing how long this 1 kid took to jack my Jeep. No it was not 2...3 minutes. This fooker was in my Parking spot sitting inside my jeep for 30 EXACT MINUTES:mad: until he started it and drove out of the garage and into the night...

He was most likely dropped off by someone in another vehicle on the street outside the building...

He went straight to my Jeep as if he knew it was there. Possibly had been there on a prior day to stake out the area and what not.

Glad you got it back, but sucks you had to go through it
Unfortunately I have lost a couple of cars to thieves over the years, always got them back, but for me it just feels like the car is tainted from then on in.

I, like you all have multiple deterrents

I had seen these here is Australia, I am sure you can get them in the US also.
https://www.ultimate9.co/au/our-ran...roller-to-suit-jeep-gladiator-2019-on-jt.html
with the EVCX model you can set the controller to "lock" so any throttle movement does not trigger a response from the vehicle, basically making it stationary, you can also unplug the head unit of the controller and take it with you. So the throttle is locked (no throttle response) and without the unit , would not be easily noticeable that it was installed at all, just a USB cable somewhere.
Sure a savvy thief will just unplug the units cabling when/if they look for it, as it is only a 10-15 minute plug and play install, wouldn't take them long, if they recognise it is even there, but if its about extra time to get to the FKRS before they get away with your jeep it may just be the time anyone needs.

As an added solution it may be worth checking out , I am certainly going to have a better look at them

I just learned that the gen 2 smart tags are not compatible with my s20+ so either have to upgrade my phone to a newer model or have to source the original smart tags.

Observations, and nothing more..............
Once in a vehicle, he wasn't going to draw any unwanted attention.
He's apparently well-equipped looking at his backpack, and not sure if that's a phone or scanner in his hand.
Likely had break-out boxes to plug into the SGW or even the star connectors back of the glove box.
He didn't need to be in a hurry - didn't matter to him in that location, and getting in so quickly.
Hard to say what he was doing in the truck once in - he might have gotten past security and gotten it going fairly quickly and was sitting there on his phone, or it may have taken him a bit to get it going.
To me, it appears well-planned, he knew what he was after, had everything he needed, and wasn't concerned.
He keeps head low, wearing a cap. Likely aware of cameras.

He 100% Tapped into the OBD PORT .. The Glove Box was locked with a $500 UNIDEN SCANNER that was still in there when I recovered it. He attempted to open the Glove Box but broke off the latch so it remained locked. And thankfully I was able to save my Scanner.

I am not sure what thieves do in Miami but here in NE Tennessee they trade stolen items for drugs or pawn it. The pawn shops and the police aren't helpful either. Some stuff shows up at the local flea markets and I would bet those items are being sold by a drug dealer or an associate.

Sometimes it is best to let the small stuff go, especially if insurance is covering it. Roll up on somebody that may have your stuff that may have traded hands 5 times before that guy got it, good way to get shot or stabbed.
