I seen the how to video, but is there a way to have the plug always hot? I don’t want to have to hit a switch because I have dogs in the back and I need their fans to always run.

also is there different setups that will give me more power? I’d like to run a larger fan.

Nothing says you can't run the power lead directly to the battery thru a suitable inline fuse.

Buy a waterproof 12V socket that has the amp capacity you need and size the power wires accordingly.

Like you said make sure you install a fuse as close to the power supply as possible, or you risk the truck catching fire.

If you wire something direct to the battery, keep in mind it'll pull power even when the vehicle is off as long as your device (fan) is plugged in. You'd probably want to set up some kind of relay so that one of the keyed power fuses in the fuse box sends a signal to a relay to turn on and then pull power from the battery.

It sounds like this may be over your head, you could probably hire an electronics shop to do it fairly cheaply (and safely) for you.
