Have a Sport S with the Max Tow option so it has the 240amp alternator. I'm adding a Renology DC to DC charger under/behind the rear seat and it has an input for what they refer to as a "smart alternator".

Is the 240 amp alternator on my Gladiator a smart alternator?

If it is, where do I tap for that "smart alternator" input?

Side question somewhat related.

Is there a firewall or floorpan pass- through big enough for 1/0 gauge wire?

The best place to tap is the extra post on top of the Main Battery positive terminal where you would get power for the winch.

Yes, I was going to run the main power cable straight to the battery. That's not my question though. Like I said, the Renogy charger has an input that's labled specifically for "smart alternators". Again, this is not the main positive input.

So, anyone????

The JT has what is labeled as a Smart Charging System. The alternator output is not constant, it is varied based on System demand.

What do the charger instructions say the Smart input is for?

Attached is the 3.6 wiring diagram for the charging system. The alternator (generator) is a simple three wire alternator with actual voltage regulation and control done by the PCM that works in conjunction with the BMS on the battery to determine charge states.

If this is the DCC50S, you just need to hook that wire to a run source, you can fusetap it to F57 or F58, they are only on when the engine is running. If you don't have heated seats, check to see if you have voltage anyway, if not, there are other fuses to try for this.

You should be able to run 1/0 through the floor boards in the rear passenger area body (not drain) plugs, and then seal it up. The firewall would be a little rough for that, although I've run wire through the firewall near the ac drain. That said, it was only 6 awg. The other option is drilling holes and getting some cable glands and you can run them wherever there is room/wherever suits in that case.

Nailed it! Huge thanks. Especially the F57/58 tip.

Apparently the device needs a "turn on" when integrated into a smart charging system requiring the extra input.

Thank you for including that schematic.
