contact all mopar parts and tell them you need the cam kit for the right side and they will give you all of the parts, price and you will need the kit CTA Tools 1205 Cam Phaser Locking Tool Kit - Compatible with Dodge Pentastar VVL 3.6 to remove the cam timing chains. i am watching this issue with my gladiator as i found some metal particles in the oil filter on the last oil change.

My opinion:

The cam that has the 1mm+ groove in two lobes is shot. I would wager its the right intake, but that's not clear from the video.

Replace it, replace all the lash adjusters ("lifters"), replace the rocker arms. If it is indeed the right intake, Jeep sells a kit with all the parts except the lash adjusters. Those are $5 a piece tho. The right intake cam is basically a wear-item on these motors unfortunately.

The other cam has a few scratches on it, it is fine.

Change the oil.

Call it done.

Again... my opinion without actually seeing the motor.
This is what I would do as well!

Had the same diagnosis a few months back. I didn’t want the bullshit to worry about so I dumped it on a new one. I am not discounting the idea of repairing or replacing the motor, I just didn’t want the hassle and……no really knowing the quality of the long block. I traded the ā€˜21 in for a ā€˜24, and I won’t look back. The ā€˜21 took us to some amazing places in the Colorado and Utah mountains. We put it through its paces and it never let us down. But, with 45,000 miles on the suspension, I was starting to look at rebuilding the Fox shocks too. The first few years with this new Mojave, are going to be way less suspension stretching here in Florida, and when I hit 45k, it will have much less abuse than the first. The deals on ā€˜24 Mojave and Rubicon are awesome right now, so I jumped. Good luck with the motor. They stopped the 4.0 because it lasted too long. Such a shame. I was hoping they would have put the 5.7 hemi in by now but………no joy. If I were actually going to replace the motor, I’d be looking at a 5.7 or similar

Sorry for the slow reply I've been away for work.... check out this thread there's part numbers and links to the procedure.

https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/forum/threads/another-ticking-3-6-repair-notes.88152/
Mojave has been at the dealer for over a month now, the Dealer suggested putting in a 64k KM (I'm in Canada) used 3.6 for $13K, I thought this was a stupid solution as the issued could very easily happen again... So I decided to go with the head replacement for 2-4-6 (left side) complete with new lifters, cams, head gaskit etc... there was supposed to be a hot oil engine flush done, before new oil going in, It was a 7K repair-
This morning, I got a text with a video telling me that the repair was completed, but the engine is still missing with a P0300 code. Their only solution is a complete engine replacement.

I haven't paid a cent out of pocket yet; the Mojave is just sitting there in the lot. What would you do?

At a minimum, you have to pay them for the head work.

As to path forward, what can you reasonable afford? I would be shopping for a independent to take over the job and look at like new take outs or a reman engine.

I have other suggestions but they are on the shady side of things.

Oh man that's a tough one.

I've never heard of the left side head having problems but I am no expert. I'm just a guy who went in and replaced a cam once....

Can anyone else think of what mechanical in the bottom end would cause a misfire without making a horrible noise or showing up as something dramatic like low oil pressure?

My line of thought is that the passenger side has a problem. Or its something like coil packs or injectors. But again, I'm a hobbyist not a pro.
