Just read through all 15 pages. WOW, you wasted a lot of money buying an AEV gladiator and then removing everything. Maybe slow down a little.

It's not wasted if you're enjoying yourself ;-)

And do not fret, I'll keep the stripes, the painted dash, monogrammed headrests, and the cool instrument cluster detail!

But, ya, knowing what I know now, I would have purchased a stock ruby and gone about it that way. The flip side is this AEV stuff commands some good money on the used parts market. Currently, I only have that bumper remaining unsold at the moment.

It's all good...

Nice build. That bumper could be converted to a stubby. That's what I have on mine.

Nice

I reckon, but after removing that bumper for the winch install, I found I really did not like the way it fits on the jeep.

The hardware was unnecessarily huge. Every single part connected to every other part, and I thought it was just way too "Busy." I do not like the complexity of that thing. And it had so many heavy parts. Ironically by using hot-stamped boron steel, they made an attempt at saving weight, then they used way too much of it everywhere. and created a heavy bumper.

Now AEV is a great company and I don't want to go negative on them That bumper is a nice piece from an OEM engineering perspective, but just speaking for myself, I DO NOT like it at all.

The only modification I wanted to do to that bumper was to install it permanently on my garage floor.

I then weighed those parts which I would not be using

Have started it and gone for a drive? That BMS you removed is pretty important. It tracks every amount of electricities the vehicle uses, And I think temperatures also. @ShadowsPapa can explain it better than me.
curious to hear of your results in a few outings of use.

I also agree with the AEV bumper. Its nice that it uses OeM style processed steel but it could have been simpler. I think they were tryin to go for a factory style look and feel though. Its amazing to me they charge over 2K for that bumper

I did not remove the BMS, it is sandwiched in where it was when I found it.

Read back a couple of posts. I've been driving it all over creation. Everything is working exactly as it was before the battery swap.

I sent an email to the director requesting an engineer explain to all of us how this lithium battery is charged on the factory car systems. Hope to have an answer soon.

Yeah, the IBS (Intelligent Battery Sensor) helps control battery charging and voltages.
The ECM uses the historical amp hours in, amp hours out, battery TEMPERATURE, and more, to control the charging of the batteries.

UH, except things you are not and can not monitor. Sure, looks good now and as far as you are concerned, the lights work, the radio works, the engine isn't over-heating and so on, but these aren't your grandfather's 57 Chevy.

Hopefully that battery you have has built-in electronics to handle charging rates and temperatures and replaces what the Jeep normally does or they won't live as long as they should.
Some do have that in place because charging a lithium battery is a different charging profile and different voltages.

THink about it for a moment.
Can you imagine a battery company builds and then sells a battery made for cars as a direct replacement that they know doesn't work...
And then burns down, what 100,000 cars because they know their product doesn't really work...
Does any of that make any sense?
or
perhaps
I believe their product is just fine.
but non-engineers will come along and decide to start questioning this new technology without any real knowledge of the thing in the first place. Next, they come up with hypotheticals that are actually baseless since they are pure speculation.
Then these "what-ifs" are presented
in such a way as to seem as though they have some credence, which they do not.
Most people will oppose and question bold new technology that runs outside accepted knowledge. Christopher Columbus had to listen to the people telling him he was going to sail off the edge of the world. Chuck Yeager was told the sound barrier was a solid mass and his rocket would be smashed. We were entertained by the 1960's comic, "Dick Tracy" who spoke into his wrist phone! How is anything like that possible?
We are entering a new age of super technologies like this. Some of us will push forward and see if the stuff works. Others will cautiously wait in the corners. Innovation is a bold thing, and it takes guts to get out there and try something new. It is only after many of the innovators have proven a concept that the herd will finally accept it.
Nope, I'm sorry.
The thing is working fine. Being struck by a meteorite is probably more likely than this engineered product failing,
but, yea
Maybe the Lithium batteries are just a hoax and I fell for it

From the Braille website:

The FleetLite F34 lithium Group 34 battery that combines high cranking power and high capacity with amazing "deep cycle" life in a single battery for commercial/industrial/automotive/marine applications. This 20.3 pound lithium battery replaces an 40-50 pound lead battery, has more cranking power & usable power and will last up to 8+ times longer than lead. This "all in one" solution can be used for starting and power supply applications in a variety of vehicles. Braille lithium batteries charge FIVE times faster than lead and are more efficient when charged by solar panels and also don't self-discharge. If there is no draw on the battery, it will still be at 50% state of charge and still at 13 volts after sitting for FIVE years, just give it a top of charge and it's still within spec of new! Perfect upgrade for cars, trucks, emergency vehicles, boats (also replaces Group 24 size) and other common applications that use a Group 34 battery.

I guess to each his own . I think it’s the best engineered bumper on the market. Hands down.

No disagreement there. Just too heavy...and a bit too busy

OK, day 2 of driving DULI (Driving under Lithium influence)

Today I was driving in the rain. Lots of stop-and-go with several starts/stops of the engine.

And again, nothing is acting abnormally. Everything remains exactly as it was before the battery swap.

I have now burned most of a tank of gas since the swap to the Lithium battery. I refueled this afternoon.

Fuel mileage was 18.66

Operations remain completely normal. I drove in all sorts of situations including two visits to a park. No serious off-roading, but a little. I drove in Cincinnati, all over the roads around there, and in the suburbia that surrounds it. I was at freeway speeds up to a 70mph cruise, and I did a couple of full throttle 5,000 RPM blasts.
The truck remains exactly as it was before the Lithium battery swap.
The test continues...
