hello all i have a 2022 jeep gladiator willys with simple bolt on mods. 2" aev lift with rubicon fox shocks. aev pro cal to correct speedometer for 35 tires. cold air intake and corsa exhaust. the other day I got in my jeep to start it. it started than I got this long message on the dash that said transmission issue dont turn off vehicle till you get to where you can get vehicle serviced. I than tried to put it in gear and the lights lit up all amber on transmission shifter and it would not go into gear. it than turned off and would not start again but acted like it was still running giving same message dont turn off vehicle till you get to destination to have transmission serviced. I ended up having it towed to jeep dealer where I bought it. they said most likely its your auxiliary battery. they tested it and it was bad so they replaced it and still same issue everything works but jeep wont start keeps giving same message about transmission and it lit up amber again on shifter. they ran some diagnostics and said its the transmission control module which is attached to the valve body inside transmission. I have 40,000 miles on my gladiator so I no longer have bumper to bumper warranty but still have drivetrain warranty so module and valve body were covered. so they replaced it and still same issue. so they have had my jeep for 30 days now and said as of now they have no idea what is wrong that they have to call manufacturer and have someone come from jeep to look at it. has anyone ever heard of an issue like this or had this happen.

Wow, even dealerships buy into that aux battery BS and blame it for everything that happens.

I don't suppose you have a way to check for any stored codes - and OBDII reader?
Or have them tell you what the codes are.
Weird things can happen due to CANbus communication errors - so the list of codes, if any, would be quite helpful.

I also was thinking canbus. But also that large plug behind the front passenger fender. I don't recall mine lighting amber when it wouldn't shift into reverse . It would just pop a cel and say shift to park and select gear. Wonder if it's PCM priblem?
Well I still say it's your idea of canbus or that plug.

thanks for the input I mentioned the can bus to the jeep service advisor. it seems like they are just throwing things at it hoping something will work. I will ask what codes its throwing. they replaced the transmission valve body and control module and they weren't even bad. since im out of my bumper to bumper warranty everyday they have it is getting expensive.

Wow…… You need to get more involved with the process or else they’re gonna rape you in both directions. 😳

The Service Advisors don’t know anything. You’re lucky if they communicated the CANBUS to the TECH. Find a buddy who’s Automotive savvy….. and pay a visit to the dealership and talk with the TECH directly. Repairs that are NOT under warranty, they need to get your PERMISSION to do them. Don’t let them pressure you into another repair without understanding what it is and why.

Don’t hesitate to get a 2nd opinion……

The connector behind the passenger front wheel liner and below the aux battery is the TCM (transmission control module) susceptible to all kinds of exterior conditions. This connector gets very dirty and IF there’s an issue with the seal where the connector mattes together or water ingress at the ends where wires go in at out, corrosion sets in on those pins and the things your experiencing could be a corroded pin.

I never had a problem with this connector but I had water forded a couple times before and I knew that connector was under water/mud so my separating the connector was to just give it a good cleaning and to make sure the seal was in its proper place, then spray both DeoxIT D5 (first) then followed by a light mist of DeoxIT Sn5 (for salt, moisture and other exterior contaminants). I put a light film of dielectric grease on the matting seal and I was done.

This was preventative maintenance and I did that with all those big ass connectors.

im retired but i work part time at the dealer i bought the gladiator from and I do get employee cost labor is half but still is adding up. I am talking to the tech on Monday because even though im an employee for the dealership I dont trust the service advisor all he says is they have their most senior tech working on it. I did have my jeep undercoated with woolwax and they put it on thick im wondering if like you said some connections need cleaned up. I have spoken up though about not just replacing stuff until they find the issue. I will know more this Monday when I go in to see the technician.

That's nasty.
When I take any of mine apart, they get cleaned and a good dose of dielectric. Any connector, no matter what or where.
No way water or dirt can get in then, and it is a good lube making assembly and disassembly a lot easier in the future.

well they finally fixed it. it was the transmission control module. apparently when they replaced the old one the tech didnt push connector in all the way. they took transmission pan back off and pulled the valve body and he said the connector for the module was not connected all the way. put it back together and everything works fine now. thanks for all the input much appreciated.
