I’ve done my best to research this myself but I just can’t find anything that would explain what change is being made from 2022 to 2023 on the overland trim that would increase the towing capacity by 2000lbs. According to Jeeps website the track is the same so it doesn’t appear to have the HD Dana 44 wide axles you get with the rubi or max tow. It maintains the 3.73 gearing as well. The payload is going down by a whopping 20 so maybe there’s a *touch* softer suspension tune (they probably just added 20lbs somewhere ), but that wouldn’t make sense for the increased towing number. So if anyone has any idea let me know cause I’m stumped.

Towing capacity didn't really increase on the overland, they just removed the manual option from the overland. The comparisons show the base configuration, and the manual overland had a 4000 max lbs towing capacity. The auto with towing package was always 6000 lbs.

I believe all the (gas) autos, except the Rubicon and Max Tow, have a 6000 lbs. towing capacity with the towing package.

All the manuals except the Mojave and Rubicon have a 4000 lbs towing capacity with the towing package.

Rubicon and Mojave manuals have a 4500 lbs towing capacity with the towing package.

Max Tow was 7650, but now it's 7700.

Ah yeah that makes total sense. I just totally missed the transmission line on the specs list. It’s always bugged me that they’re locked in to the base config on jeeps webpage when it can significantly impact performance.
