The reality is that most folks are not going to use a winch very often, so it’s OK to buy a lower priced winch if budget is a consideration, something like the Badlands Apex 12S. I have a Warn Zeon 12S on my Adventure Motorhome and have the same winch on the way for my Gladiator, but these are more than three times the cost of a Badlands Apex, so only warranted if you plan to use your winch a lot or budget is not a consideration. My JK has the Warn Zeon 10S, and I have over 120 winch pulls on that winch, the vast majority pulling others out of trouble, so I just spend the money on the best winch I can buy since my winches tend to get used a lot.

I will say that I have a Badlands on my 47 CJ2a truck conversion, but that winch only sees action when I am clearing trees on our property that have hit the ground during the winter. I think I have about 20 winch pulls on that unit, so the less expensive Badlands was a good option and has never failed.

I also run a winch cover on all of my winches, as water can penetrate the gaskets and get inside the winch, resulting in the inability to engage the winch. I believe a Warn winch cover will fit a Badlands Apex of the same style as the Warn Zeon 10S and 12S, and you will know your winch is ready when duty calls….all for just $60 off Amazon. The cover also protects the synthetic line from damage by rain, snow and sun. The Warn cover has a zipper above the engagement handle and socket, so it’s easy to engage the winch and plug in the cord. IMHO, a winch cover is a good investment no mater what winch you purchase.

Whatever winch you select, just don‘t go exploring in the back country without a method of self recover. Buy several soft shackles off Amazon or Harbor Freight (IMHO, these are just as good as the more expensive one for the occasional user), buy at least one snatch block, one D-ring and buy at least one strap to secure the snatch block to a tree, rock, etc. You don’t want to be THAT GUY on the evening news that had to be rescued because you were not prepared to self rescue.

By the way, most folks don’t realize you can winch yourself up a hill backwards by routing the winch rope under both axles, through a D-ring attached to the rear bumper and then to a tree or rock behind you. the D-ring keeps the jeep following the winch rope instead of trying to pull the front end around. I’ve self rescued two times with this method when I went down a hill in a snow storm and had to winch myself up the hill backwards. One time I was rescuing another jeep so I had another jeep attached to my front bumper with a strap and winched us both up the hill, my jeep going backwards and the other jeep going forward.

Tips:

A 4 post lift (really is nice LOL)
Read the instructions and then again.
Make sure you have all tools in your sight!!! Not just "I have that" and then spend hours looking for it.
More jacks and jack stands than you realize.
2 buddies to help.
An ughadugga wrench.
Ice cold beverage of choice for the end of the day accomplishment.
Get it aligned ASAP.

A 4.5" lift with sport fenders on 37's will give you a ton of room in the wheel well.

I have a 3.5" clayton with 37s and there is room for 38's with no issues.

I wish i had a 4 post lift. Will be doing to with 8 jackstands a floor jack and alot of determination. I put long arm carli kits on dodge cummins all the time. So hoping this will be ok lol and everything is new less than 800 miles on the gladiator so hopefully bolts arent a pain in the ass to take apart

I can't do bottom of cab, too much variance in rock rail coverage etc. I can get you bottom of door, or bottom of window.

This is with a Clayton 3.5 and 37's

My wife is 5'5" and hops up there without any issues.. it's all about technique. It's not skirt friendly though.
