Same here. On my 4th Gladiator with the 3.6L and hundreds of fill ups with 87 octane and never an issue with knock or ping. If I am feeling generous, I may throw in a bottle of injector cleaner once in a blue moon mainly because I buy cheap gas at the local Stop and Rob Quickie Mart store.
That's the only fuel stop for me, stop and rob!

From my rote understanding of Octane, it is the fuel's resistance to burn. Cars that require higher octane have higher performing engines. If your engine is rated to burn fuel at a certain temperature and it cannot reach the appropriate level to efficiently use the 93, it does not ignite. My wife has a Volvo XC90 T6 with a Supercharged engine. That thing needs the 93 or it will not perform. The same should be true on the other end?
No, it's a resistance to SELF-IGNITON due to pressure and temperature.
If it was lack of ability to ignite, you'd register misfires like crazy.
People really misunderstand octane.

Engines don't "burn fuel at a certain temperature" - a spark ignites it. Diesel, that's another topic.

You are judging on a single tank of fuel and assuming?
There's zero reason for the two to be connected unless you got bad fuel
Judging on multiple tanks...... Filled up three times with Non Ethanol and it seemed to clear up some. It almost feels like the truck is missing during medium acceleration. Filled up this morning with non ethanol so we will see. Really not wanting to go to the dealer with this, but it might come down to that.

These take some time to adjust to fuel changes..........

One test would be to use a totally different station for your fuels. It's entirely possible that one tank at a given station has contamination while the other does not.

I have tried multiple stations (Shell, Chevron, Marathon, stop and rob) for ethanol fuel and the results are the same...... Only a handful of non ethanol in the area. I will know (if I already did not) if I will be running non ethanol for the life of the truck after this tank.

Hell, I run 15% in our Jeeps, never so much as a misfire cold or hot.
You've got something else going on. These engines were actually modified back in 2015 to be flex fuel engines. They don't have the tune for it from the factory, but it's been done.
There's zero reason for ethanol to be causing you any issues at all - unless maybe you have other contamination in your own fuel tank.

We run U88 as it's called around here - 15% - because it's so much cheaper.
Ran it in my 2020, my 2022, my 2025, my wife's 4xe JLU with the 2.0 turbo.
These were built for it (even more if not for the tune)
It's one reason for the high compression ratio. When building an engine for ethanol, you want higher compression, which these easily meet.

Sorry, there's something else going on.

I’m sitting at the dealer now to have them check the weird 2-3 and 4-3 hard clunky shifts. They are gonna reset the learning period to see if it does anything first. We’ll see what happens.

I agree, something else is going on. I run U88/E15 quite a bit also and never skips a beat.

Well I think I figured it out!!!!! Brought it to the dealership and upgraded šŸ‘šŸ» I was waaaay ahead on the rubicon and it made sense to go for what I originally wanted. Very happy with my decision and the best thing is all my parts purchased for the rubicon was swapped over…….

Makes me wonder what the ’adaptive learning’ compares to the 2016 Canyon I had.

The Canyon had programming issues (shifting) that I’d been the dealership several times for. From various programming adjustments to changing the torque converter….. Long story short…. Each visit they’d reset everything. It was only a matter of a few weeks before the issues came back. I knew it was a programming issue because if you used *Tow/Haul Mode* - it’d shift awesome and as expected.

I eventually just gave up… GMC was never going to make a programming changes on the 6speed when the 8speeds were already on the roads. It was a widespread issue aka ā€œchuggle / Stutterā€. It seemed like those guys who drove around with a heavy right foot, didn’t have any issues. So…I started putting my foot in it!! šŸ˜†

That's how I drive all the time, and within a couple of days the Jeep started to shift at the same time I was reaching for the shifter out of habit!
