I run 87 octaine in my 2023 Glad. No problems, no pinging. When cold and just taking off the truck will jerk slightly then runs smooth the rest of the day. Trns shifts smooth. I'm no tech, but I wouldn't waste my money on a Higher octain fuel .

Stick with 87 octane like the manual suggests and you'll be fine.

My 24 does this only if light throttle.
Mine as well when running 93 octane..... Got a full tank of 87 this morning and runs like a champ. Still getting the bucking at light throttle, but it is slight at best. Reason I am thinking the throttle controller might help with this problem.

cold transmission, full hard accel into traffic, mine hangs in 3rd gear. usually im letting off the throttle bc ive gotten up to speed 50-55mphmph or so, but the rpms hang at 5k rpms and it wont shift unless i manually do it or it finally comes down to 4k and shifts.. its done this since i owned it. used to happen alot, now its every now and then. it doesnt happen enough for me to be concernerd.

2021 jt with 29k miles.

30k+ miles on 91-93 octane and never had this issue..

I have ran 87 as well, on occasions and while ymmv I did note a slight increase in fuel economy using the 91+. This isn't a casual observation for me, after I noticed worse economy I actually tested this last summer making the same 190 mile drive many times. The tanks I ran 87 in I saw a peak of 18.7-19mpg while on the 91 I did see 19.5-20.5mpg. I'm not going to say this as a blanket statement for everyone, but for me I did notice this and was able to repeat the outcomes. This also was all during the same season, same approx. temps and route.

FWIW the newer 3.6 has a compression ratio of 11.3:1 which is not a low ratio. Using 87 is intended per OE recommendation, but using 91+ isn't going to be an issue either. My old S2000 required premium and Honda stated it was due to the compression ratio being 11:1.

Yeah mine did that , just slightly let up your foot off the throttle and she will go in . At least mine would .unless pulling a steep incline

Bought the truck in April 2025 and I always ran 93 octane in my vehicles.... This truck ran like garbage since day one!!!! Shifting is jerky from 6-7-8 and it feels like the converter locks up HARD. Rode like this for about 4k miles and decided to put 100% 87 octane in it.... Totally different truck!!! Smooth shifts and no hard lock ups. Dumped some ethanol 87 and still rides great, Last Wednesday I decided to try 93 again and the demons returned!!!! Burned through that tank and went back to 87 and clearing back up now!!! I do not get it?? I am in no means a rookie when it comes to mechanics (owned and worked on a good many of muscle cars) so it is not a placebo effect at all..... Anyone else have this issue???
Placebo I think 🤔

Although, I don't know diddly squat..... I know that running 93 does change the way the engine runs - internally (with all the complexities, sensors, data, programming etc). As folks have already mentioned.

In years past (and vehicles I've owned) -it wasn't an issue swapping between them. The engines would adjust accordingly. I remember having an old pickup truck that would ping profusely while running 87 going uphills in the mountains (thin air?). So, I'd swap over to 93 and all was good. Go back to 87 for normal driving.

There was always those folks who would run 93 on a regular basis because they would see better gas mileage..... Sure... But.........when you compared the price and calculated it down to COST PER MILE, there wasn't much (or any) benefit.

I've never used 93 in the JT....and probably never will, unless I have a reason to.

im in kind of a valley, so its up and down the whole way to work. I told jeep my transmission does not get to operating temp during my commute, they told me 'just take a longer route to work'. i mean..........okay.

Should have asked Jeep if they would mind slipping you 20 bucks a day to supplement your fuel consumption :giggle::giggle:

Not at all..... shifts like garbage with 93 octane and smooths out with 87... VERY NOTICEABLE... Wife even noticed it. Guess the extra workload of burning 93 maybe???? Who knows, but it will be 87 from here on out

Rarely does a solution in the Jeep world lead to saving money.
