Hey Forum, newbie here, glad to be here and thanks for having me.

I have been reading about the 0-20 oil issue.
My question what is reccomended on majority 5-30 or 10-30?

Also, is it OK to run the same oil filter with a heavier viscosity oil?

She's only got 300 miles on it and want to head this off at the pass before it goes too far.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum. And congrats on the new truck.

If you're simply looking for opinions from random people who also own Gladiators........you're definitely in the right place, as we all have ours.

If you're looking for anything other than those opinions......well, actually you'll get a lot of that as well here.

My opinion......use what the manual says, when it says to do it and go enjoy your truck.

Thanks . Yea I'm a stickler for going by the book book, but I'm also one to do more to preserve my vehicles, it look like a darn if you do, darn if you don't type of quandary.
However on another note, this Willys drives better than I could of imagined, I'm pretty amazed at the handling at cruising speed and the smooth ride.

There's a multitude of oil threads, opinions, and interpretations available here. The manual is clear, though, only 0W20 Synthetic is recommended for use in the V6 engine.

Like others said, you'll get as many opinions on the brand but bottom line is for normal, every day usage, OW20.

Personally I run LiquiMoly in my vehicles.

Regardless, change it often and send a sample to Blackstone every change. Last I did at 6K miles, last change Blackstone suggested 8K to get a comparison.

I'm beginning to agree as I read. AND I am starting to think that the issue is coming up in oil change intervals. When I was growing up it was common change oil every 3,000 miles now its 10k, I think that's a bunch of K rap to be honest. Every 5,000 max, and this is probably why running 0-20 for 10k is causing issues.

I'll play devils advocate.....

I'm a 5W30 full synthetic every 4000 miles kind of guy. Its been around 100 degrees F lately and I just feel better knowing it's in there. Mopar or Purolator Plus filters only. Purolator Plus has great statistics and are affordable.

This all said, I'm VERY hard on my Jeep. And having a past life in two different dealers as both a tech and a service manager, I've never seen a warranty issue related to oil weight for what it's worth.

A consistent 4000-5000 mile interval is more important than the weight discussion at the end of the day anyways.

Thanks I agree, I think it comes right down to intervals of changes rather than weight of oil. If your running in hot weather change more frequently, etc... thanks for your input much appreciated

What Liquidmoly, the viscoelastic? I've heard of it and will look into it.
What does Blackstone charge per test if you don't mind me asking?

LiquiMoly is a German oil company. They figured out how to dissolve molybdenum into commercial oil post war. Blackstone is $40-50 depending on the testing level.

The standard (for me) has always been 5,000 miles. Itā€˜s hard to break yourself out of old habits.

These newer vehicles have their own complex systems to collect all sorts of data and determine when you need to change the oil. It’s impressive yet scary at the same time.

If you take your truck to a garage to do the oil changes, the shops I’ve used, all still use 5,000 miles. šŸ˜† My last oil change was over-due. I had 7,000 miles on it and I was frantic to get an appointment to get it changed. The Jeep said I had 28% left. All is good…. I don’t think I could ever let it go to 10,000. šŸ˜†

0W20 Synthetic is good for up to 10k miles, depending on use. I did the first change on my current truck at 3k miles, and then followed the Oil Life Monitor for the next two, which was around 7k miles for each one.

My post on motor oil compliance is not a bad place to start on this topic. Check out the key moments in the video by The Motor Oil Geek / Lake Speed Jr. I use 0W-20.

The first car I ever had with an oil monitor was an 1991 BMW 525i. Green, yellow, red bars. When it hit yellow, consider changing it. When it hit red, DO IT NOW. Generally speaking I ran it around 7500-8000 miles with Castrol or Pentosin (BMW spec) and that motor went 240K before I sold it, but had its top end rebuilt around 200K. Even so, thats a pretty decent run.

The reality is the Jiffy Lube marketing folks did a great job convincing everyone that 3K miles was necessary but that was the dino oil era. Synthetics can and do go further, and 5-8K isn't out of the question assuming you're running decent oil. Mobil One just did a 25K test with the X Overland guys and it performed incredibly well. Would I run oil 25K? Absolutely not. But I don't have a problem pushing to 7-8K on Liquimoly, Castrol, Mobil One or Royal Purple.
