Rubicon or Sport? Rubicon will fit 35s with no lift

While these aren't technically "35's", they measure right at 35 inches, zero modifications other than mounting them on the stock wheels. I think plenty of people have 35's without suspension mods, worst case you'd probably need a leveling kit

But will it rub on flex?

I haven't seen a definite answer on this yet either....and I have been searching and reading for months. Some say yes, some say no. I think the people that say 35's don't rub while flexing on stock Sport suspension(and flares) just aren't wheeling hard enough. If 35's don't rub on stock sport suspension, then i'm Santa Claus. (Hint: I am not Santa Claus) hahahaha

I've got a Rubicon, stock. I just plan on running a leveling kit and stock tires until they wear out. After that I'm bouncing between 33x12.5 or stepping up to 35x12.5. Curious to see other's experiences in this thread.

It's all about the fenders.

On a Sport, 35s WILL rub off-road with stock suspension. I did a 2" front lift and 3/4" rear, and flexed mine all the way out on 35" tires and nothing rubbed. But...it was very close. I couldn't go a single size larger with tires. The 35s just barely fit on the trail.

So if you wanted to do this on stock suspension, you'd have to find 2" somewhere else, and that would have to be in the fenders themselves.

What backspace and offset when you had this set up? Happen to have a picture? Did you do anything with shocks, LCA's or end links with the 2" up front?

Well I could have sworn that I put a video on my YouTube page from the day I flexed everything out on the river trails, but now I can't find it. Wheel backspace was 5.2". Offset was +10. Width was 8.5". Tires were 315/70-17 Milestar M/Ts. ONLY mods were 2.0" spacers up front, 0.75" spacers in the rear (sourced from Daystar's website), and steel shock extensions for the front only (also from Daystar). Control arms, sway links, drag link, pitman arm, track bars, etc. are all stock.

When I tried to do 35s on stock suspension, I couldn't even get out of the driveway. Had to trim the lower air dam. There IS a video of that on my page. It's been one of my most popular vids. So the small lift spacers fixed that. If I had Rubicon fenders, the spacers would have been unnecessary.

I guess what I am asking is what setup will allow it?
like if your response is "yeah youll have to sawzall the fenders" - ok, just trying to figure it out.
I mean is there a x wheel backspacing and x brand fenders combo that will get this done.
sorry for some reason I dont get notifications about this thread O_o

Let me clarify further...
I dont have a glad yet but I am dreaming about the future. If I am being realistic ill end up with a Sport S max tow.
We did lots of offroading in my youth but I dont see us hitting any trails locally, mostly because they are ultra tight and you will be pinstriped for days. So my thoughts are that 37's would be a waste and just eat up mpg's for 'looks'. Stock tires just look too tiny so im thinking 33/35 inch tires. I dig the little lift big tire look so just trying to think aloud about what would work. I was thinking something along the lines of Flat Fenders and maybe a spacer lift if necessary.

CleanKat,
Scanning through the board and saw the pic of your JT. The tires you put on look great on the stock wheels. 295/70R18, right? If you have any side shots and front shots would you mind posting? I'm going back and forth between a wheel and tire change out - 17x8.5 Quadratec Recons with 305/70R17 vs going the route you went. I really like the look of the stock wheels and my off road time isn't anything extreme - fire roads, stream crossing, the occasional wicked road rut. I don't think I'll ever have any clearance issues. Thanks.

Ran my Sport S max tow with bfg MT 35x12.50s no lift but did remove the air dams (looks much better) and did NOT rub fully flexed. Eventually did a 2” leveling spacers which actually is 1.5” since you have to remove the factory spacer 0.5” spacer, but mainly for aesthetics but also gives to a slightly better approach angle. For the last 1000 miles have been running rubicon take offs 33” (will swap on the 35”s for trail rides). Although a nicer less highway tracking drive, No MPG difference 18 hwy, 15 city, round up, same as every Jeep I’ve ever owned.
