Just wondering out there if anyone has just swapped their differential from another housing? Let's say you get the axles from a wrecked JT that has different gears and locker's would you swap the entire thing?

Many backyard mechanics just swap the entire axle assembly because they don't know how to setup gears.

If the front assembly came with a locker say from a Rubicon I'm guessing you'd just have to add a switch.

3rd member?? JT’s don’t have a 3rd member…. that’s seen in Ford’s / Toyotas.
It’s an entire axle assembly replacement….OR….. Carrier removal / carrier / gear change.

Jeeps dont have a 3rd member. As someone else said. Only Ford and Toyota have a 3rd member.

But swapping axles is a hell of a lot easier than setting gears. Even if you know how to swap gears. (I know how to set gears). It can sometimes be quicker to swap the entire axle than swapping gears. Hand full of bolts, brake calipers, shocks and the axle is removed. You can have an axle removed in 10-15 minutes.
