Welp our Trailhawk 4xe has been in the shop 15 days, by the time they can work on it again will be day #21. Racing towards a lemon law at this rate. Something is wrong with cylinder 3 at high load, misfires.

Meanwhile our local rental place happened to have 6 4xe Wranglers dropped off last night so we swapped our shitty Rav 4 for a 4xe Sahara. They had a Rubicon but in cloth.

So now I have had the Gladiator 3.6, the 4xe Grand Cherokee, and the 4xe Wrangler. When working, the 4xe GC is by FAR the best of them all to drive.

I prefer the 3.6 in my truck to the Wrangler 4xe. I picked up the Wrangler with <1% charge and the gas engine in that state in this thing is fucking brutal to listen to. It's not at all that loud or clattery in the GC.

Side note, I almost twisted my knee getting out of the Sahara Wrangler. Muscle memory from stepping out of my truck is quite a lot higher and suddenly the ground was just there.

The shop foreman who had been away 2 weeks is now on the case. Day 23 now. He noticed that the oxygen sensor voltage was stuck, which is weird it isn't throwing a code, but it isn't supposed to do that I guess. Not sure how that would impact only cylinder 3 but it's at least a lead.

New engine on order but delivery is currently 30 days. Unclear if that's standard up front time quote or reality. There's 1 in transit and our status is 1st in line. So will see. Hope to hear more soon.

Cylinder 3 had significant scoring on the cylinder wall. Jeep tech said to replace it.

Day 27 now.

Jeep expedited the engine to next Friday and dealer is prepped to focus on it. I truly believe
the CA lemon laws spooked Jeep.

Day 29 today.

Engine arrived at the dealer today, barely escaped the UAW strike... tho not entirely sure if it would impact the supplier of the engine.

Work prob start Wednesday.

By far the #1 thing I have learned is do NOT get the higher end models of vehicles from lower end brands. When shit goes wrong they DO NOT KNOW how to provide high end service.

This issue has been a total mess to manage from the Jeep side. I can't imagine Benz or BMW having the same service issues on the same priced vehicle.

Their customer service and retention offices are operated by people who were overwhelmed by working at Wendys.

100% agree. Back in 2009 I bought a brand new 2010 GT500. Fuel pump was defective from the factory..heard it whistling as I drove off the lot. Back to dealer 5 min later. Down 2 weeks. Got it back...cool fuel pump works...then a few other issues while not as major..... Ford treated me like shit and gave 0 of same. Shame on me for buying a $52k Mustang in 2009. Now they're $100k....lol! Some things never change.

Stick to your guns, I know you will.

The torque and HP of our Wrangler 4xe blows my JT out of the water. The torque and HP exceeds that of a 5.7 hemi.
It's wild in the mountains. It doesn't even downshift where on the exact same highways on the same hills and mountains my JT has to keep shifting. The Wrangler sprints right up and doesn't downshift. The torque is amazing.
The 2.0 coupled with the electrics is far stronger than the 3.6.

It's literally able to take the same highways as a diesel would just as easily.
Where the 3.6 must downshift to make the grade, the 4xe does not.

I can't see that. We drove our 4xe from Iowa to Florida and back, and going down we were keeping up more than the speed limit.
I've made the exact same trips taking the exact same highways from and to the same places and my JT struggled more. the 4xe didn't even breathe hard in the mountains.

They'll have to improve the range a lot, and keep the same payload (or better) and the same towing (or better) than my current JT but I suspect it's not only possible, but coming.

We leave it in hybrid mode all the time with max regen.

No way am I ready to go full electric with a truck - not a chance. Not until they have a whole lot better range per charge. I want to be able to drive 1,000 miles on a charge.
Until then, it's hybrid.

I've basically compared apples to apples on the exact same trips, same drivers, same highways, same speeds.
IMO, Jeep may still be a ways with electrification of the fleet. I have seen some third party electrified power plant concepts that are basically drop in place that don’t sacrifice much in terms of functionality and operability. You can still do ”Jeep” things with them. I still don’t know what Stellantis plans are for Jeep and the roadmap for Gladiator, they didn’t introduce anything new for 2024 yet and dropped the 3.0 V-6. Would be interesting if they can apply hybridization to the I-6, maybe that makes its way into gladiator? IDK, just ain’t sure what they plan to do…

quality and reliability aren’t things that stand in todays world when it comes to mass production. Only Toyota and Honda have achieved that thus far. Engineering and building reliable products just isn’t the same, and the knowledge and workmanship at the dealer level unfortunately is a product of that.

I bet you if we went back to build the same cars today that you are referring to from the past that we would far exceed the quality and reliability they originally had.

The issue at the dealer wrt to us is not a skill issue, it's that in order to swap this engine you need someone whose level 3 (highest) in both the engine and high voltage.

That's the thing. When you are used to largely servicing Ford Taurus or Edge buyers (at the time) then when something goes wrong with the M3 priced car you get treated Ford Taurus level service. They don't know how to increase service levels to the same levels as similar priced cars from higher end brands.

Our GC was the same price as a nicely equipped X5 or a GLE but wife has always wanted a GC since she was a kid and we were interested in the plug in because we do so much around town we will never need to fuel up. Also the Trailhawk has so many cool features we just liked it.

Next time for sure we will just go with an X5 or GLE. Or XC90.

That kinda depends on where you live. The ski resort is 16 miles from my house, all my shopping is less than 5 miles away. I wouldn't need to use fuel for like 90% of my trips with a 4xe.
Haha, ditto here in Montana, gotta love the Mountain West. Most of our commuting, skiing, grocery getting, and trails are <20 miles. Big Sky is 40ish miles, but I think you're required to drive a new Escalade or Land Rover to ski there. ?
