Good Day All!!

I wanted to upgrade my 7" Radio to a 8.4" and my dealer parts guy told me that the radio is not for my particular model. Has anyone who has completed this upgrade had any issues? I have a 2022 Altitude.

Tons of people have updated the radio, the larger issue is getting the offroad pages to work. I am sure someone here who has done the swap can link a thread that explains the procedure.

Yeah, there are a few here who have whole threads on their updating to the 8.4, the gotchas and so on.
Dealers likely won't do it because of all the work, and settings changes and perhaps Jeep doesn't allow them to. It's a sales thing - why make it easy?
The radio is a central piece of all of the electronics so it's not just take out old one, put in new one and magically it all works.
But - it's not impossible or crazy difficult either save for things like already mentioned - stuff tied to your VIN which is in that radio - off road pages being the biggy (which is weird, too)

It can be done, but it is not authorized or supported by Jeep/Mopar/FCA. Official Support and Warranty Service for the 8.4 Uconnect is only available for factory installed units.

The interesting part will be in a few years when they (FCA jeep brands) introduce the giant sized screen like in the new RAM models and how many people might want to do conversions for that, that one my friends will be a doozy. essentially taking a 12" tablet and getting it to work in your dash, likely many parts to remove and install, with lots of $$$$, lol

Always baffles me why Jeep can't see the moneymaking opportunity here for their dealers by making options easy to add after the fact. Our Acura was missing several options....easy as could be to go to the dealer and get them added. Everyone wins. Acura, the dealer, and the customer.

Some options can be added by dealers, but FCA is more concerned with their own bottom line than with the dealers. The integration and multiple companies involved to make the 8.4 Uconnect work would become a huge support headache if they allowed dealers to install them and add them to the network. FCA keeps control of the head units because they are paying AT&T and SiriusXM the monthly service fee for each unit installed.

68472597AK is listed for 21,22,23 gladiator
68417868AM is listed for 2020
I do not know if this is the full list of changes, but I know the 2020 model radios had a different way in processing the camera video signal. People found that out who bought Wrangler JL radios and tried to install them and the camera would not work in the 2020 JT. After 2020, that was not a issue and the part number rolled.

No issue here. I actually swapped from a 5in to a 8.4 radio. Once I put it in it required an unlock code. You can get it from the dealer if you have the vin of the previous Jeep that it came out of or you can buy the unlock code on ebay for $10. Once you put in the unlock code the radio will turn on but you will be missing a bunch of apps and the rear camera will not work. You will need to do 2 full sleep cycles for the electronics to come back on and act normal. I drove it a few times that day and in a few hours I had everything working.

As far as Off Road pages... no big deal. I used the Tazer to enable off road pages and it was good to go.

One of the best mods out there!
